Hello everyone!
I have two young shooters needing lots of practice. They both have ROSSI singleshot rifles in .243 win. The throats are looong in these guns. A .75 sierra will not reach them from a loaded round.
Anyway I am looking for some advice on a mold for them. I have cast for years but never sooo small of a bullet. ANY advice would be great!!
Also where can i find .243 gas checks?
Thank a million....Buck:castmine:

I have had good luck with my 243's with the 85 gr. Levern style Lyman blt cast hard, water dropped, sized .245, w/Hor GC, and Lars Red lube. The longer/heavier cast will not shoot well in my rifles. I find that loads in the 1900-2000 range seem to shoot best. Good Luck!

Saeco and Lyman both have a 6MM (243) mold. Ly. 245496 and Saeco 243, I have both but have shot only the Ly. in a 6mm BR with a 1 in 12 twist. I have goten 2500 fps ½ to ¾ min. groups @ 100 just about on demand If I do my part.

RCBS also has one 243-095-SP.

I can send samples of the Saeco and Lyman if you want some, fully dressed and ready to load or butt naked.

You will need Hornday or Gater(if he makes em) 6MM gas checks.

I use the RCBS 95 grain mold with good results.

I'll go with the Saeco, the RCBS 95 gr and the Lyman 245496. Never could get the 245498 to shoot. The RCBS is the best in my gun.

Why are you wasting time casting bullets and hanging out here????

Uncle Ray AKA Carpetman intro'd me to the RCBS 95 SP a few years back, and I've had great luck with this boolit from 1600-1900 FPS. It DOES IN ground squirrels with authority, and can do 1.250"/10-shot groups at 100 yards if I do my part.

More recently, I've tried a Lyman #245496 that 45 Nut passed my way. Its work is nearly as good as the RCBS boolit.

Dr Jay---My avatar. Well thats my fishing partner. I told my wife I wanted a boat "wench" and she thought I meant a boat winch and she said it was ok. I picked this one as she has all kinds of money I guess she has a rich huisband maybe a Dr or something? How else could I afford a new Honda outboard on my fixed salary?

Don't believe him, Dr. Jay. This is the partner he spends his time with:

Hey. Not even.

PLEASE--don't get Uncle Ray started about boats, outboards, and fishing. Last time he got off on one of those tangents, it was nothing but Rio Grande steelhead runs and Pecos River brook trout for 3 weeks. Oh, the bandwidth. Giving Carpetman a new outboard is like giving whisky and car keys to teenaged boys. (P.J. O'Rourke, paraphrased)

Ray, from reading this you are no longer throwing up too much dust to see when riding 4 wheelers across the dry lake bed?

Mt Gianni-----I still ride my atv---not as much as I'd like. There are not as many places to ride as in lots of states as Texas is pretty much all private land. I do have son in law and friends with land though. The lake I'll be going to the most is indeed the one I was riding my atv on not too long ago. Past year we had a lot more rain than usual(still not enough)and the lake that had been less than 10% is now 50% or so. The cotton farmers in this area all did real well this year---probably made enough to pay off last years debt. The heavier rainfall also made for a good pecan crop. I have one pecan tree and I have given lots of pecans away this year.
The lake I mentioned that was dry was drained to repair the dam and lack of rain kept it that way. For that reason I havent registered my boat since 1996 and getting all of those several years setting problems corrected has been a bigger(and more expensive undertaking that I would have guessed). But I think I have it all done just waiting on the motor which I hope comes in tomorrow. OOOOOPPPPSSSS posted this under wrong thread---wasnt hijacking anything on purpose.
