So I look up linotype for bullet casting and find that Midway sells it....$28.49 for 7 lbs.! Is this standard price now? What does that make my 30-40 lbs. of linotype worth? I'm going to just start casting, so how exactly do I use this when casting hunting/target bullets for a .357 Maximum from a 15" Encore? We bought the linotype years ago for $.02/lb. when the local paper shut down and have used the pigs for various purposes when extra weight is needed, but now I want to use it for bullet casting. I know where we have another 70 lbs. worth as well. Does one alloy it with wheel weights or is the WW alloy just right for my purposes? I've heard mix it 1-1 ratio with pure lead for a good hunting bullet alloy. Thoughts? Opinions?

The reason that alloy cost so much is that it is NEY certified in grade and purity.

I've used 50/50 wheel weights/range scrap and shot it in everything on up to .300 whisper at 1800fps.

eBAY will tell you the value of just about any consumer good not firearms related. Looks like right now it's going between $1 and $1.50 a pound plus flat rate box shipping.

Search the site a little and you'll find lots of discussion of lino. For .357 2 or 3 to 1 would work dependin on how hard you push it and what the availability of soft lead WW are to you.
