Have been checking the gas prices on the stock market for a long time. They have averaged about 15-20 cents lower than what we pay. But this year it has been way out of the norm. For the last month they have been way off that average. Today it was selling at $2.54 It has been like this for the last month. A good 70-80 cent difference. Someone is making a bunch more money.

I'm all for making money, but not at the expense of putting it to everyone. I worked for a man that owns around 100 Shell gas station in this area. He used to make a lot of money when I worked for him. He said sense gas went over $1.50/ gal that his profits have more than tripled. So that right there shows that we are getting it without any boolit lube.

Just venting as I am living on left over income and trying to get on SS myself for injuries to back and complications from diabetes.

Has everybody already forgotten the lie that was fed to us a year or so back when that brakken field out in the Dakotas was first starting producing. "There will be so much oil produced here that it will make the arab oil fields pale in comparison, it will drive the price of oil down and subsequant oil products also". All I`ve seen of this oil boom is train loads of it heading down to Texas and refined and shipped off to China and every other country except us. Yes, I realise the almighty dollar rules for supply and demand, well what about our demands here where it was pulled out of the ground?Robert

Oil is a global commodity. There are several things happening in the world today that COULD jack up oil prices ... but it hasn't happened.
When the U.S. is putting oil into the global supply instead of taking oil out of what's available, that changes the whole equation.

Nothing against you Jeff, and I hope you can take this in the right way.

I do not care what the price of gas is in New Zealand, nor do I car what the price is in Europe, nor do I care what the price is in Canada, nor do I care what the price is in Ohio, nor do I care what the price is in the city next to me, nor do I care what the price of gas is in the station across the street, I only care what the price is at the station I am pumping gas at.

Wow! That was a long sentence. Currently I am paying $3.53.

the bakken puts out over 1 million barrels of sweet crude per day. [airc we use a bit over 2.5 mil a day]
every time it affects the reserve capacity of the country our DOT.GOV overseer's ship it overseas.
oh btw it's the number-2 producer of oil in this country, think about that for a second....

Wow, you most certainly do. Here I was feeling sorry for myself at nearly $4/gal when a lot of you guys are nearly a buck less.

I would absolutely love to visit New Zealand some day as it look like an incredibly beautiful country, but you all sure do pay dearly to drive your cars there.

Talking about gas. I know the price of oil reflects the price of gas, but this wide of a margin is not right. Something else is going on. We used to pay a 10 cent difference between E10 gas and Regular gas. Now it is on average 30-35 cents higher for the regular instead of the 10 cents. Something went on there at the same time that this margin showed up.

it went up last thursday nite about 14 -18 cents ( per norm ) to $3.330-ish ( low grade ) it's slowly trickled down a penny at a time to $3.21-.25
we seem to have cycles , real regular like, goes up about every second thursday 10-25 cents and spends the next two weeks going down a penny at a time barring major world shake-ups that is ( which are akin to wildcards )

It really defies all common sense to import AND export oil. Except for the oil companies because they make money going both ways.

I understand that it's a world commodity. And that private companies are the ones that produce it. I'm not real keen on having the government regulate it in anyway. But at the same time shouldn't the US come first if it's produced here? I don't think this is asking a lot. Domestic use should come first. If we have a surplus then it can be exported. Is this the wrong way to think about it?

Gas dropped to $3.24 right before Labor Day. It's now up to $3.44 for no apparent reason. To say the oil companies aren't price fixing would be a lie. I wish there was a solution to this but I don't see how it can be done.

$3.559 here this morning.

Refining capacity is part of the problem. You can produce all the oil you want, but if you can't turn it into gasoline, it's not going to help. Storing all that oil until it can be refined costs money as well, so they'll sell to anyone when they have more than they want to store.

here in south west Wisconsin it is
87 octane with 10% ethanol 3.38
91 octane with NO ethanol 3.98

I have seen a 7 cent drop since labor day most of the summer it spent in the 3.40s here usually 3.45 to 3.49, we have a bunch of road taxes , it is not at all uncommon to drive to Iowa and see a 20-30 cent drop the other side of the river

the 91 no ethanol i use in my small engines and chain saws doesn't normally fluctuate as much as the road gas , it held most of the summer at 4.09 , it is worth the 50-60 cents more as it keeps longer and doesn't foul carburetors , and I might use 15 gallons of it all year while i use 30 gallons a fill of the 87-E10

Others say that it does get exported.

I don't know much about the topic, but I have a question.

If US crude and fuel was not allowed to be exported, what would it do to our economy and the price of fuel and products? It seems the price of fuel would go down and the price to produce and ship products would go down as well. Would this not stimulate the economy? The oil rights may be owned by companies who may be exporting, but it seems that it is a bad idea in the long term to export our natural resources. Wouldn't it make more sense to hold onto what we have and either import or use our own oil, so that we do not end up dependent on other countries sooner than later?

$3.21 here. Part of the price depends on how far from a refinery you live, how much your state taxes a gallon of gas, and lastly what kind of exotic blend of gasoline your particular state demands. California for instance demands special blend of gasoline that costs more to refine and blend. Any gas sold in the U.S. costs more than say Mexico or Peru, just because the EPA requires all sorts of added chemicals. Even so, gas in Europe is more than double the cost of what we pay for a gallon of gas. Gas may go up even more if the Feds have their way and tack another 20-25 cent a gallon tax increase on the stuff.

Not sure that state tax has much impact on the price of gas. Michigan which in 5 miles from my door has higher tax than Indiana, yet I can usually buy fuel cheaper in Michigan.

Sturgis, Mi. normally has the best price for gas in my area.

U.S. Crude Oil, ...... Crude Oil cannot be exported, might be some minor exceptions but not for large volumes. It really does not matter much because even with all the new domestic oil the U.S. still imports more oil and oil products than it exports. They will probably pass legislation to make it legal to export Natural Gas since much capacity is not being exploited because the price in the U.S. is too low to make extraction worth the effort.

The U.S. does export a lot of Petroleum products just not Crude Oil. So far this year the U.S. has been exporting about 350 million gallons of gasoline each month. If for some reason oil imports had to stop the U.S. could be self-sufficient in gasoline production (if we stopped exports) and natural gas supplies, some other petroleum products would require some refinery tweaks and prices would rise and jobs would be lost because the import/export business does support many port and refinery jobs. The countries that depend on us to make their gasoline for them would be in a world of hurt.

Saturday and Sunday I drove from Michigan to Florida and have scoped out the areas likely to have cheaper fuel prices. I had fuel enough to get from Kalamazoo to Sidney Ohio where it has been cheaper in the past and found the price to be $3.37 at Speedway just off I75, It is a little cheaper than the surrounding areas though the difference was smaller this time. The next stop was at the Willamsburg Kentucky Pilot, $3.20 . Next was McDonald Tennessee at an E-Z Stop, $3.08. Then another Pilot in Vienna Georgia, $3.16, Then ,On fumes, I got to Titusville Florida and the circle K was the only thing open, they were $3.29. The highest seen anywhere was $3.69 this trip and they were just across from a place that was $3.39. I find that they play games with you, showing a cheap price after you can't exit and hoping to get you at the next exit. Also as you go south prices seem to tend lower as you approach the state lines and hop up as you get deeper into a state. If you watch and don't let your gauge get too low so that you can pick and choose you can save a few dollars. I saw one $2.99 advertisement but the place had either recently burned or the exit was torn up and closed, I could not analyze the situation right then.
