When Accurate Arms powder came on the scene in the 80's I bought two 8 lbs jugs of AA5 and one of AA9. This is when the powder was made in Israel and imported by Accurate Arms Co. of McEwen Tennessee. I now have just one jug of AA5 left.

I have had very good results with these powers. I have used AA5 in 38 Special, 357 Magnum, 9mm, 45 ACP, 44 Magnum and 45 Colt rounds. AA9 has seen used in 357 and 44 Magnum rounds.

How does the current production powders compare to the original production powders as above? I understand the company has changed hands and has different powder producers.

I think the current AA powder may start here.
http://www.gd-ots.com/commercial_powder.html

I have used AA #2, #5, #7, 2015, 2230C, and canister 2230.
I have some 5744 but not much experience with it yet.

if I can get it I use it.
#9, 4100, 1680, 2230, and 4064 all are favorites of mine.
they are pretty flexible for ball powders.
2230 is my favorite of the bunch, I use it in jacketed and cast loads in a HUGE variety of calibers from the 25-20 up through some 30-06 loads duplicating the 30-30 it is definitely one of my go-to must have powders.

I have been very happy shooting AA4064 and 2015. The 2015 has not varied in burn rate during production of the last 12-15 years IME.

Thanks for starting this thread. I use #2 in 9mm & 38spl and really like how clean it is and how well it meters. I have wanted to try their rifle powders and #9 for .357 as well and I now have the confidence to do so.

the 357 should be a good fit, I'm using #9 in the 300 b.o. right now [about the same case capacity] and even the start load shot super clean.

"current production"? If I could find some I'd tell you.

I love 2230 for the 38-55. I'm getting down to about five pounds now, a situation I didn't think I'd ever see. I'm on the hunt for more

I've been using AA powders since they came on the reloading scene. Back then, the pricing was very attractive. My favorite is 2520 for 308W and J-words. Lately, I've been loading it with cast in my AR-10, even though "cast data" is nonexistent! Results, have been very positive.

I also like AA4350 in the 243W with J-words and have been utilizing it lately, with 200 grain boolits in the 308W.

AA 5744 is currently, being used in a 308W bolt gun, with cast. Best accuracy is obtained with the lower charges. The AR-10 wont cycle, reliably, at these loadings.

Some of my best groups, in 9mm Luger, were shot with AA#7.

I still have a few lbs of AA MR-3100 left in a 8 lb jug i bought in the 80's . Excellent powder ! but dont shoot rifle much.
I think i paid about $35.00 for the 8 lb jug

I have some 3100 also I found it works good in heavy and fast 30-06 cast loads . I think my other early powder was when it was labeled MR223 , still using 2230 and 2520 .

I'm down to the very last of the 2230C Surplus Data powder. Bought two 8 lb jugs at the now defunct Jenson's in Tucson AZ, and acquired another jug of about seven pounds.

Like you, I was attracted by the price and availability. The load data was a several page flyer type of spreadsheet.
They were in McEwen Tennessee and the contact person was Ted. I have forgotten his last name.

Hardly ever see it around here, never tried it. Saw a few pounds of 5744 last weekend and grabbed it up just to see what all the fuss was about.

Data 2200....been using it for about 16 years now but I'm running low

Because of the spotty availability here on the left coast, I have generally avoided them. I did pick up a 4 lber of #2 back in 1992 and burned it up in various 38 loads, but went back to Bullseye and WW-231 once it was gone. In those days, Accurate powders were significantly cheaper than the competition--not so any more.

And when it's gone, there'll be no more.
Same with my 2230C. IIRC, I paid $96 pre tax for 2 8lb jugs.
Ah for the halcyon days of surplus and pulldown powder.

I have two jugs of 2230c that I've never used... Is it any good for
cast bullet loads in calibers of 6.5 to 8mm?
Thanks,

About 5 years ago I tried a few 1 lb. cans that were made in Israel. Liked it so I bought a couple 8lb. jugs that I noticed were made in U.S.A. I never changed the data except to come up a little from the minimum charges. Best I can tell they are identical.

Just got an E-mail from Ramshot/Accurate

From: Shiloh
Subject: Accurate Powder: Contact Us - Technical
Question Type: Technical
Question Type: Older Bottle of AA2230
Folks,
I have a couple bottles of AA2230 that has to be 15-18 years old. It is unopened. I have both of your large catalogs. The first red one and the second non-red one.
Your powder was made in a different place back then. The latest data on the website is different.
What load data should I use for .223 52 thru 60 grain bullets??
I would like a midrange load to start at and work from there.
Let me know would you?? If needed, I can get you a lot #, but am on break at work.
Thanks and Regards, James Smith.
PS. Could you send a small print catalog?? Thanks.

Shiloh,
It is always best to use the most current load data. As testing methods change and get more precise and new equipment is made.
