Several years ago I found an Ideal bullet mold #319162, this is a .308 bullet weighing 185 grains. Since I am casting with lead about 20-22 Brinnell hardness, they are weighing around 177-178 grains. Since this bullet does not have a groove for a gas check, I will need to use without one. does anyone know where to get any loading data for these rounds? All of the information that I have found tell me not to go over 1400 fps on the velocity because of not having a gas check. Does anyone have any data on loads for this bullet? I would like to load in a 30-06.:veryconfu

I believe that Pat Marlin makes a plain-base gas check just for your bullet. Check with him about it.

The classic load for 30 cal rifles and a full-size boolit is 13 grains of Red Dot... Personally, I like to use 16 - 18 grains of Alliant 2400 for cast boolits around 180 grains in my 30-06 loads... Not too fast, little recoil... Of course, starting with a .319 diameter boolit is awfully big for an '06... Depending on the throat size of your bore, you may not be able to chamber that boolit...

It shouldn't cast anywhere near .308. According to Lyman, it's normal cast with diameter with #2 alloy is .322.

Sounds like a good Enfield mold.

According to my old Lyman book the bullet is for the 32-40. Think your out of luck for loading it in the 30 caliber 06.

Sounds like a good Enfield mold.

Or perfect for a Mosin.
