Wow, looks like fun. Those cranberries don't look like any I've ever seen in stores, what do you do with them?

We are headed up to the Cascades to do the same on Thursday hoping for copious huckleberries and some non-bug infested king boletes (porcini mushrooms). Grouse season is open too so the 45/.410 Contender rides along. Too early for russulas here and only a few chanterelles so far.

quilbilly! We went into Hells Canyon last weekend and picked apples, 2 varieties of plums, blackberries- there is fruit all along the river that is just going to waste. Supposed to be some peaches and apricots still in the old homesteads but we had plenty to make jam and applesauce.

Might make some cranberry jelly, but we also make cranberry ketchup....

here is the link to the way to do it from a female forger buddy from Wrangell....

This has been the best blackberry season in my memory around here. We just finished off the peaches on my backyard tree today (yes, peaches grow on my side of the Olympic Peninsula) and it too was the best harvest ever. I do love this time of year!!

Nothing better than some fresh morels, cleaned, sliced, and fried in real butter, lemon juice, salt and pepper. Tastes like steak.
I unfortunately, have no luck finding them around here. Other people do, but not me.

Well wayne, get yourself a good mushroom book for your area and see what is growing in your area...... Only way to learn is do your homework, and get out there and climb some hills.... Just like casting boolits... First you read, then you try... Now go get em.... :)

Find someone gullible and expendable - teenage neighbor comes to mind- to try them first. I had one morel in my back yard last year, none this year.

Morels are pretty easy to ID, look at the pics of false morels and you will easily see the differences. I had a ribeye steak with a morel garlic butter sauce last spring. Friends that were over said the sauce was better than the steak!

I read this hoping for a good thread on running a forge. But this is about foraging (searching) for food. Still, I like to eat!!!!!!!!

Absolutely..... Technology is supposed to be advanced enough to know what we are thinking...................

Actually you probably did get it right but the auto correct (designed by a generation who have no idea what foraging is) thought it was a misspelling and "corrected" it.................. Of course I'm supprised it even recognized the lost art of "forging"...................
