I have clays and win 296, can these be used for the 30-30 with 180gr. cast?

TRM, I really like SR4759 in the 30-30 with 150gr GC. Kids love to shoot it with little recoil
and they can hit with it...... 18.5 grains....about 1750fps.

Clays is close enough to red dot in burn rate that I'd probably start with 8gr and work up to about 10gr.

What wiljen said and you prolly wont need the gascheck. You can use 296 but loading data is scarce. My RCBS manual lists 296 for lots of cast loads.

Dug out the RCBS Cast Bullet manual. They list 11-13gr H110 for a 175gr cast and 13-15 H110 for the 187gr. You can use the H110 data for 296. It also lists 15-17 inder a 115 grain cast.

Red dot 8-9 gr.

Am I wrong or is it Win 296 and H-110 that isn't supposed to be used in any reduced loads?

For .44 mag and .357 mag Hodgdon specifically states not to reduce more
than some small amount, like 10-15% or so (don't remember), so I'd be
a bit nervous using H110/W296 for cast loads in a rifle. Seems too much
like a reduced load to me. Apparently the reduced loads can actually cause
very high pressures due to too little powder for the case volume. It seems
that H110/W296 needs to be used at a pretty high load density to be safe
and predictable.

Personally, I'd try 10.0 Unique or 16.0 2400, two "universal loads" that have worked
very well in many different calibers in many different guns for cast boolits. PLEASE verify
that this is a safe load in any particular caliber - but these two loads tend to
do very well in essentially any 1880 to 1960s vintage bottleneck military cartridge.
I would imagine that they are safe in the 30-30, but you need to check this as
the case volume is a lot less than, say a .30-06 or 8x57, etc. Inventing your own
loads is an advanced reloading method and can be dangerous if you don't
really think through what it is that you are doing. . . . . . .:-?

Be safe and have fun :-D
