speer reloading data for 9mm and Hogdon HS-7

Does anyone have a speer manual handy?

Could you humor me and look up 9mm data for Hogdon HS-7?

There is another thread with a new reloader who got data from a gunshop and says that the data was wrong, that the max load would overflow the case.
Data was still used since no other data for HS-7 could be found.

Load data was just written down and then reloading commenced.
Rounds have been fired.

Manual version unknown
Bullet style for supposed load unknown.

Just trying to figure out what load data he was using.

Another possibility is that the Speer manual list Win 571 (I think that crosses) and that data was used.

Just grasping at straws trying to figure out what data was used (and supposedly so wrong)

Edit- just got information that the speer data was NOT used, the store gave a load to use with the powder.

Still curious what load speer supposedly got so wrong.

The Hodgdon manual #23 from 1979 does not list HS7 for 9mm, its not suggested until you get to the 357/41/44 mags. HS7 is not approprate for 9mm.

Here's a photo of Speer # ten dated around 1980. I don't see HS7 listed.

Kind of what I figured, not sure where the supposed load came from that would overflow the 9mm case.
Which led to the Speer manual being completely untrusted.

I quickly glanced at the Speer #10 & #11 manuals and only noticed HS6, and no HS7 load data listed.

My Speer #12 Speer Reloading Manual however, lists some HS7 data for 9mm, on page 500 & 501.

The HS7 data listed for both 124 and 147 grain Jacketed 9mm loads in the Speer #12. You should be able to use the J-word data, reduce the load and work up safely.

The Speer #12 only shows HS6 for use with the 125 grain lead L-RN boolit however. I would be VERY careful not to mix up HS6 load data with data intended for HS7.

My copy of the Speer #12 Reloading Manual is dated 1994, if that helps any.

Thanks for the help guys, just trying to figure out where the reloader got this info and why it would overflow the case (if that is really the case).

Once I found out that he hadn't used this to load from it became less important, just curiosity for me now.

You can usually email most of the companies looking for load data as well.

Depending on the tech you get that day they will often look through a handful of reloading manuals (much like we do) and look up load data for you.

Just be careful if they give you load data from a much older manual, as it may be quite a bit hotter than today's more recent pressure tested load data.

I have Speer #14, HS7 only shown in 124&147grn loads. Top performer velocity wise with 124gr jacketed, low performer with 147grn. No cast bullet data for any bullet, any weight.

for reference:

test weapon: S&W 5906 4"

Primer: CCI 500

124grn: FMJ, UCSP, GDHP
COAL: 1.135,1.12,1.12

HS– 7
start: 8grns 1159FPS
max: 8.9grns 1249fps

I jus fired off a few rounds loaded with 8.8gr of HS7. Using a Berry's 124gr FP. Nice shooting and put brass about 3feet to the right of me. Shooting them out of P95
