Hello to all,
I want to work up loads for my S&W 25-2 (45ACP/45AR), using the SAECO 225gr Wadcutter bullet.
I have the following powders on the shelf: Unique, WW231, Universal Clays, WST, Red Dot and 452AA. If you have a load for any of these powders or others you might have tried, I would appreciate your help. Thanks for your time.
Regards,
Tim

Tim - I assume your 25-2 is a 45ACP -

Unique - start at 6 grains and work to a max of 7. You will wind a range in there that shoots tight to in the same group, then set you powder measure to the middle and load a bunch up.

I shoot a lot of them loaded on my Dillion - can't keep them loaded long - too much fun to shoot.

My IPSC load for a 230 is 5.0 WST with a Federal primer, makes about 750fps.

For lighter loads I was using Regular Clays, right around 3.8gr with 185gr HG130. For the heavier boolit, I'd figure around 3.5gr.

FWIW, I don't shoot the 235's in my 25-2, BUT, the 200 H&G 68 does Very well with 3.6 to 3.8 WW 452 (Know where I can get some more?) and 4.1 700X.

The 452 load also works well in my 1911 NM, again in the 200 grain.

Have you tried yours with the Auto Rim brass yet? I'm kind of curious how that might work. Be a lot easier to keep the Revolver loads separated from the Auto loads.

I shoot the 625 S&W with a Paul Jones saceo it cast a 223 gr round nose bullet. I push it with 4.4 GR OF WST and a federal primer work great. About 750 FPS.

Lonestar, the Saeco 225 WC seats deeper in the case than most similar bullet weights, reducing powder space and increasing the velocity with a given powder charge. From what I've seen, you need to reduce charges around .5-.8 grains, depending upon type, to produce velocities similar to 230 grain RN bullets.

Some suggestions that duplicate ball velocities of around 800-850 fps:

4.5 grains Red Dot
5.0 grains W231
5-5-6.0 grains Unique

Very, very accurate bullet. Maybe not an all around bullet for the ACP/Auto Rim revolver but very useful, in a weight that is similar to the RN/SWC's, so rezeroing the revolver with a bullet configuration change is not necessary. Nice clean holes in paper, and slaps the hell out of small game.

Good bullet. I think you'll be happy with it
