Now thats a hillbilly swat rifle....or is that the original "brush rifle"? Whats in those weeds?

is that alternate front sight tack-welded on to the sight cover?

None of you guys ever saw a rifle with a ghillie suit before?

runfiverun
08-25-2014, 12:18 PM
I'm going with it being a modified supremely viable moisin.
somebody watched enemy at the gates too much as a kid.

Well, I would give the previous owner some points for creativity at least.
Maybe burlap was the original tacti-cool add on.

I think this is hilarious. I can see it now, take a shot with the extended top sight, cycle action and jam a bunch of burlap in the action.

Just hope it doesn't burst into flames when you shoot it

08-25-2014, 01:38 PM
Fire it with mil surp and you will be coughing for a month from the dust and **** that will be "liberated" from the burlap. Would probably do away with the advantage of smokeless powder over BP for shooter location ID too!!

The guy only pawned it so I'm not the owner of this fine piece yet (hopefully I won't be). I wasn't sure what to say when he walked in with it. I figured whatever I said might offend him.

Sometimes it's so hard not to say what's on your mind. Some silly fool is pretty proud of that rifle.

leeggen

can't shoot good cause you can not see the front sight by looking thru the back sight. Way to much burlap, but would blend in up here inTn. in the winter.

Oh by the way what caliber and what make is itor can't you tell yet. Looks like somebody forgot to water that chee chee pet.

Don't lay it down out here on the Texas plains you will never find it again. Know a smart hunter lay a cammo rifle down to go see if he killed the deer , never found the deer or rifle.

If he doesn't pick it up I will have an Extreme Makeover Home Edition type reveal. Instead of "move that bus" everybody can say "remove that burlap".

If that rifle's decorations are indicative of the sort of work product he puts out at his day job, it's no wonder he needed to pawn it.

timspawn

I won't know until I unwrap it. I have no idea what it looks like under the burlap.

Between the kudzu, virginia creeper, and ivy if you leaned a rifle against my back fence for a couple of hours this summer it would have looked just like that. Must be that Global Warming I keep hearing of.
I must have filled six dump trucks with the stuff this year.
When the ground hugging vines and roots get caught on the front drive axle of my mower it winds up tight as the stuff on that rifle. That was the first thing I thought of when I saw it.

leeggen
10-26-2014, 07:45 PM
I think he is waiting for the bidding to start before he unwraps it for us. Good hunting to ya.

Still the unrapping show will be fun to watch.

Well here is what was under the burlap. All I did when the guy brought it is was make sure it wasen't loaded by removing the bolt and looking down the bore. I also cut some of the burlap so I could see the serial number. As I started cutting the burlap off of the barrel today, you can imagine what was going through my mind when I found there was an aluminum tube over the barrel. Thank goodness both ends of the tube are open and there are no holes in the barrel.

Well that makes sense....don't want to burlap to burst into flames during sustained fire. Good aluminum shroud will keep burlap smoke from giving away your position.

Free float front end. The most tactical of all battle rifle mods.
All we need now is a fishing vest covered in Mosin clip-a-zines and we should be good to go.
Also I am thinking some righteous you tube videos showing tactical rapid fire with one arm WAAAAAAY out on the free float forearm would be nice.

Hey, isn't that the ultra rare Vickers conversion? Ask the owner if he has the rest of the plumbing.

TXGunNut
10-28-2014, 09:46 PM
Got any string? I think I know why the previous owner wrapped it in burlap. Sometimes camo has more than one purpose.

starmac
10-28-2014, 09:53 PM
Well, at least I see now why he pawned it, after all that trouble rigging up that can, it didn't quieten it down a bit.

Blacksmith
10-29-2014, 11:49 PM
All it needs is a high price and a good story. If the story is good enough some fool will buy it.

It must be the air cooled aircrew version for keeping enemy fighters away.

Southern Son

Needs a combination verticle front grip with torch and pop-out bipod, then it would be perfect.

Where the hell is the purple writing button??????

leeggen
10-30-2014, 10:00 PM
Yip- it is a real one of a kind babba special!!! Holy cow pies, hope the cover has not hurt the barrel. Bet that is supposed to keep the worp out of the barrel when hot or real cold. I know -it has fittings on the back side so you can heat hot water for coffee while in camp.

How much extra weight did that mess add? Mosins are not a lightweight gun to begin with. I could not have held that thing and fired, would need a rest of some sort.

matching numbers gun? If it is cut that tube off and see how bad it looks under it. Otherwise it could be a good transplant into an archangel stock, my Chinese Type 53 in one

I'm not going to spend any money on it. I'm into it cheap and can sell it cheap. I'll let somebody else make a project of it.

MaryB
10-30-2014, 11:32 PM
I would be interested in cheap but shipping and transfer fees would kill the price.
