Whan I went to coffee this morning I learned that I was the winner in a raffle by the Jr. stock show. I won a Weatherby Vanguard in 257 Wby. mag. with a Leupold scope (3X9). $5.00 ticket (just bought one). I will probably see if I can swap it for one in 30-06, as that would fit my needs a lot better. I have several thousand brass, lots of bullets, and dies left from having one stolen years ago. It would be more cast friendly, also. Happy Day! Dale

When I got the gun in hand it was a little different from what I was told when I bought the ticket. It is a Vanguard Deluxe and the scope is a Millet 4X16 gold series, anybody hear me complaining? The wood is beautifully figured with a red streak running through the butt that closely matches the reddish hue of the forend cap. I don't know if I can part with it even in a trade for one equal to it in 30-06. Wow, I think I just fell in love. The target with it has two shots in a vertical line inside 1/2 inch with the third shot less than an inch away lower and left. I'll try to get pictures posted. Dale

i won a dollar once.
Not a bad target for 300 yards!! Oh sorry Dale. I wonder how they do that test? Anybody ever shoot cast in a Weatherby chamber? Send Veral a chamber cast and see what kind of boolit he designs.hehe

I will work on this picture posting thing some more. My sons have persuaded me to keep the gun as is. They have offered to give me an early birthday present of 100 rds. of Norma brass, and Dave has offered to give me his Savage 30-06 for a cast boolit gun. My wife said that was so nice and I said maybe they plan to inherit it. Ha! Dave said no, he wants me to live forever, but did he have borowing rights? You bet! Sounds as if it's win, win. I am a blessed man. Guess I'll get to shopping for dies and bullets. And powder, 70 gr., ouch! Dale

MROliver77: I have five of the greatest sons in the world, 42 to 16 yrs. of age (yes same mother). MTGRS737:Thieves don't want me on their jury. I went today to increase my insurance coverage on my guns and shooting related items, I haven't done so in 10 years, and was way under underinsured. Dale

If that was my rifle, I'd just buy factory ammo for it. The latest Midway flyer has Remington for $73.99 a box. (smile)

We hunt in several wheat fields that run to as much as 360 acres and CRP that runs even larger. The old wise ones tend to not stop until they are in the middle of the field. Maybe I can reach out and touch them with this one. Just got a set of dies on Ebay for $26 delivered. Now I need to get some IMR 7828ssc. 3655 fps with 100gr. condom bullet.Dale
