2400 is my all time favorite go to powder for cast for rifle, and mag hand gun. It is scarce however, and haven't seen any of it on the shelf in over 6 mo locally. That said, am about to pick up an 8 pounder of 4227, as I have had pretty good luck with it in a number of ctgs that I load with cast. Guess you need to get what you can get while the getting is good. Primers are available, but the prices are still way up there.

All I have seen lately has been slow magnum rifle powders. Fast pistol powders and shotgun powders are all "We had some last week". Cast friendly powders Just don't seem to stay around long.

A 2 week vacation in June going from OKC to Park Rapids Minn. I hit GS's/pawn shops at Joplin, Soue Falls SD, Fargo ND,
Park Rapids Mn. and a few small farming towns off the beaten path on ether side of I 29.
On the return trip, Fargo again then Lincoln NB, most GS's had some form of rifle powders but
very little if any P/S powders until I hit Salina Ks. a pawn shop had 2 1#ers of 2400 but only sold me 1, a boat/sporting goods store right next door had 4 1#ers of 2400, I got all of those then sold 2 of them to a friend.
Both of these shops had a few other P/S powders but I didn't need them.

I have come to the conclusion Alliant no longer even makes Bullseye ! ;) ;)

I've gone to 4227 as well. Works with cast for: .223, .308, 30-30, 32 Winchester Special, 45-70, .45 Colt(ruger only) and .454 Casull which are the guns I shoot most.

I would give up drinking for some W231.

I ended up ordering from Lohmans with a 12 week or more backorder, figure get some eventually that way. Tired of going to LGS and seeing empty shelves and cupboards. Lot of running around for no gain what so ever.

Now I figure I have 3 months to cast away to be ready for the order of powder to get shipped. Then load like mad, and shoot as much as I can until the snow flies.

my gun shop just got in 6 lbs of bullseye, I could not believe my eyes at first, just stood there and looked at it and than grabbed 3 lbs of the stuff for 19.98 a lb. I was going to take it all but left 3lbs for some else. that is the first pistol powders of any kind I have seen in one year around here.

Alliant is still in business? Couldn't prove it in these parts...

I picked up my first pound of 2400 a couple of months ago, they had plenty at LGS I get my powder from. Might have been out since however.

My LGS has everything Alliant in stock about once every month except 2400. Trail Boss is what is rare around here. Almost every IMR and H number is in stock though. Lots of W's too.

My LGS hasn't got ANY powder in for months. Been waiting on an 8 pounder of CFE223 and 8 more pounds of Red Dot(Use under cast in pistols and light rifle loads plus shotgun when my nephews are here and want to shoot trap, last trip they shot 2,000 rounds that I then made them reload under my supervision)

Saw some CFE223 a few weeks back, guy I know did some early testing on it and is pretty pumped up about it. Seems I have more powder on my shelves than most LGS's but I still cruise by, pick up a pound now and then and on occasion snag a nice levergun on the way out. So far my powder quests have resulted in three (four?) nice leverguns following me home. At least I have powder for them. ;-)

Thank God that I bought enough of all of the powders that I use before Sandy Hook and most of it before our present leader was elected the first time.
I'll never use it all but I bought it before any shortage was thinkable. I did the same with primers, brass and lead. Most of my lead cost little to nothing.

I use CFE223 in my 223 and 5.56x45, great powder, barrel stayed really clean, from talking with a couple others using it in 1:9 barrels 27.5 grains is the magic load under a 50 grain v-max. That is my prairie dog load and for other small critters.
