Looking for a heavy weight 45 colt boolit to play with and am eyeing one of these 2 molds from NOE. Hoping to get some first hand experiences with them.

Hi Doc,

No, but I use a 320 grain LBT LFN GC bullet in 45 Colt and 454 Casull. They shoot very well from both cartridges.

Take care, Tom

Cast yourself or bought? What type of performance are you seeing using what powders velocity and accuracy wise?

The 320 LBT LFN GC was my first mold, and obviously the 45 Colt and 454 Casull were the first cartridges for which I cast. The 454 is the cartridge I was loading today too, with my own cast bullets, including the 320 LBT. We have about 25 years of history together.

My notes show speeds with this bullet in the 45 Colt in a Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter of 1100 to almost 1300 fps with Accurate #9, WC820 (mil surp powder), and H110. With Unique and M9 (another mil surp powder) this bullet goes 1000 - 1100 fps.

You can use Ruger-only data from the major loading manuals, or http://www.hodgdonreloading.com/ to get these speeds in suitable revolvers. For example, Hodgdon shows 1266 fps for a 325 grain LFN PB bullet using H110. With one grain less than the Hodgdon max load I got 1279 fps from the 7.5" SBH Hunter with my 320 grain LFN GC bullet. These speeds are not hard to attain, and they are very powerful loads. They are very accurate too!

When I got my Dillon XL 650 it was set up for 454 Casull. Some years ago I converted it to 45 ACP. Now I'm preparing to convert it back to 454 Casull! I'm coming full circle in more ways than one.

I haven't shot either boolits however I do shoot a custom designed 310g and a 345g that is similar. Of the two I prefer the 310 for my Ruger Bisley 45 Colt and the 345 for my Ruger SRH 454 Casull. I would think of the two you suggested from NOE I would personally go with the NOE 454-350-RF due to the meplat.

I have a few different designs over at Accurate Molds however these are the two I referred to and now shoot:

If you are planning only on a Ruger RedHawk or BlackHawk then this is also a very good heavy design that a friend put together. I've shot this one and it's a ringer out of my SRH and Bisley.

I use the 454651 350Gr RF in my 4in Redhawk. It seems to be accurate enough for a 4in barrel but 20gr of H-110 is all my hand will take. Haven't tried the load in my Blackhawk but I should it may be easier on my hand with the longer barrel.
