I need to know if this will be safe. Load calls for 16 grains of 800x in 12 gauge. My bushing says it will drop 16.1 grains. I really dont think .1 grain is gonna hurt but I'd like other opinions. This is for 1 1/8 ounce of #5 shot

weigh your charge, if it's a mec bushing it probably throws a light charge.

.1 should not cause you a problem but as stated take a few weights and see how close you really are. I have not tried 800x through my MEC, but I do have the universal charging bar.

Its Lee bushings. This press is a joke!! I give up. Gonna buy a MeC.

MEC ROCKS.

That said, to your original question - that .1 grain will make zero difference. IF the charge drops what the bushing says.
( ALWAYS verify your bushings. )

The bushing that it called out drops 1.5 grains heavy. The next smaller bushing dropped 1.1 light.

If in fact you are talking 800x and not 700x you are not even talking a starting load for 1 1/8 oz of shot. Starting loads for 800x are in the 20 gr range and go from there. I think you are talking 700x@ 16 grs and that is not a max load with 1 1/8 oz of shot so I would not worry about .1 gr. Depending on the hull, wad and primer there are 18 gr loads of 700x with 1/1/8 oz of shot. What hull, wad and primer are you using??

AA hull. Federal 12SO wad. 700x powder. Winchester 209 primer. 17 grains of powder. My chart shows a .151 bushing. Using that it dropped at 18.6. I dropped down to a .148 bushing and it dropped a charge of 15.5. Also noticed that the 1 oz shot bushing totally filled the case. I mean over filled and spilled.

Check your data AGAIN. Not even close to what I use for that load.

Yea. I wrote 800x instead of 700x.

+1 to the MEC. My 600Jr is almost 40 years old and still works like it just came out of the box. The only complaint is the threads on the bottles when full of shot are not quite strong enough IMO.

Get the adjustable charge bar right away. Buying bars and bushings is a pain.

or buy them a bit small and bore them out.
many bushings are super close to a drill bit size.
i alway's under sized them, then filed them to drop the correct weight.
the bars are super nice..

Bushing can be adjusted lighter quickly by wrapping a small layer of tape inside them also. Put a single wrap and check then adjust from there. Make sure it is laying flat and no loose edges. Also it cant over hang top or bottom. Down and dirty quick fine adjustment and will tell you what size hole you actually need

+1 on what Country gent said above.

in my 12 gauge I use 27.5 grains of 800x in a gold metal hull with the clay busters pink wad. Best load ever for my heavy loads only guns, plus you can see that neon wad when you shoot, best training aid ever. Minute of bunny at 55 yards!
