I'm buying a Magma Master Caster and I have my choice of 110v or 220v. The 110v draws 13 amps and the 220v draws 6.5. They tell me it's a rare even that someone chooses 220v. Both are 1500 watts. I have 220v available but I would have to do a bit of wiring. Not much but some. Is there any real advantage of going 220?

Demand is so high that it's going to take 5 or 6 weeks *groan*.

You are probably billed on 'watthours" not amps by your power supplier.

6.5A @220 is the same and 13A@110. Double the voltage and half the amperage....still 1500 watts.

I ran 220 to my shop so I could have separate circuits for A/C, lightung and outlets. And if I ever use my antique Lincoln rod burner welder out there! The MIG wirefeed 120v is all I ever use anymore.

220 comes into play when using it on large induction motors and such.....better power factor. Heating elements, not so much. And for long wiring runs....a little less power loss at the higher voltage.

Do what you want. I would certainly get the 110V unit so you can run it ANYWHERE...ANYTIME!

Ok...they recommended 110v. So that's what I'll stay with.
