Son n law and I went out to procure some lead today. We are now into the longest yard sale event. It starts somewhere in Alabama and goes north for a few hundred miles. So we saw a ammo can and decided to stop at this place. As he looked at the ammo can I saw a barrel laying on the tarp. I picked it up and saw that it was a 12 ga. shotgun, well, almost. It had no stock or trigger assembly. All that was there was the barrel, magazine, and bolt that was still in place. Long story short, I bought it for $15., thinking it would make a good project. I was thinking more of putting it into a shadow box and put it on the wall. After all, it was a old bolt action 12 ga. Made my day. When I got home I went on line to see if I could find some parts. It is a J.C. Higgins model 583.13. The first thing I brought up was a page from Numrich. It said to contact Sears because there is a recall on the shotgun. It said I should pull the bolt out and mail it to Sears and they will send me a finders fee of $160. Would have loved to have a bolt action shotgun, but cash looks good anywhere.

The longest yard sale goes from GA to a small town in MI. Us locals stay off US 127 because of all the gaugers and people parked on the Hi way... Freakin nut house.

I have always wanted to go up to that yard sale but I don't have a truck and trailer big enough to bring back all the stuff I would buy. Big packrat here

Sounds like you need to send that bolt to fatelk.

Wonder how much he would like to have a shotgun that might be unsafe to shoot.

No, that's ok. It's my dad's old shotgun and the bolt is missing only because we removed it due to the recall and sent it in for $160 maybe 15 years ago. :)

The safety issue must have been minimal; we shot the heck out of that old gun. I liked it.

I do plan to turn the bolt in. But it has sparked my interest into owning a bolt action shotgun. I'll see what the internet has stored up for me to look at.

There always seems to be a few in the LGS by me. Never too pricey either. That $160 would get you close.

Shoot , the $160 would get you 2 around here! And a big GRIN on that Dragon reference, fun on the K75!

I bought one a couple months back. A 20ga Westernfield (by Mossberg). Under $100 shipped. I'd say that $160 should get him one and a few boxes of shells. :D

I called Sears today. The recording said if I send them the bolt they would send my a Sears gift card for $50. And what would it cost me to send it to them? For that I'll just keep it. Maybe Fatelk would like to have it for free?
