I have a chance to buy a big 45-50 lb chunk of Babbit. The fellow shot it with a anilizer and it came up with over 85% tin and 3.5% copper remaining lead. BUT is it worth a buck a lb. I Don't use that much tin but i have 60 lbs of 12% Antimony balance lead bars and mixing the two would make some nice alloy wouldn't it? I wouldn't mind selling some of it at a very low profit if some of you could use it. Give me some ideas. I wouldn't go near it but i seen the guy shoot it myself with the Niton Anilizer and he let me read the results.

I'd grab that so fast it would make your nose bleed. :-D Take 2lbs of it and 2lbs of magnum shot, and add it to 96 lbs of wheel weight. That makes a wonderful alloy. You can HT to whatever hardness you desire, or air cooled it works great for hunting. With a good barrel I've gone up to 2200 FPS . :Fire:

First that is way cool that the guy has an analyser. Tin is usually about $10.00 a pound so anything less than that is a bargain. At 2% that will sweeten up a lot of WW.

You could buy it for that and sell ingots here for $5.00 lb and we'd all be making money and be happy!

Would the 3.5% copper be a cause for concern?

If tin is about $10 per lb., and if the babbitt is 85% tin, you are paying $1 for $8.50 of tin.

standles,
No worries about the copper. The tin babbitt that I used had 8% , but you're only adding 2% tin babbitt to your alloy. The only time I have seen a bit of build up around the spout, I was melting straight foundry type.
