I have some 200 gr RNFP lead bullets and would like to know if they will work in a 45 ACP. I think they more resemble the 45 colt 250 gr RNFP profile.
Bought them at a gun show so don't know what mold they came from.

thanks

My 45 will feed Keith style semi wadcutters, if it will feed it will shoot.

I use an overall loaded cartridge length of 1.210" with my .45 200 RNFP bullets in .45 acp and they actually feed slicker and more reliably than RN bullets. That bullet was designed for light loads in .45 Colt, but just by pure accident, they made the ogive on that bullet just perfect for feeding in the .45 acp when loaded to the above length.

I have a friend that owns a .45 acp Ballister Molina that would not get through a full magazine without at leat 2-3 failures to feed. He tried the .45 200 RNFP in that pistol, loaded to the length specified above, and the last I heard, he has fired over 20,000 rounds using that bullet without a single failure to feed. That is one of the bullets I recommend for "fussy feeding" pistols.

I would make sure they are .452 some of those are .454...
Might lead up easily if there .454's

Mastercraft, do you have a load range recommendation for the 45 ACP 200gr RNFP 1.210"?

Joe: Please check the post dates before replying to a post. this thread is from 4 years ago! And to answer your question, you shouldn't take load data from an internet forum, where you *might* get good data, or you *might* get a load that could kill you! Check either a good loading manual, or if you must use the internet for your load data, get it from a company website, like www.hodgdon.com where there are tested loads. Another thing, when using cast lead boolits, the seating depth is something that's variable, make sure the selected length will cycle in your gun before loading up a bunch of them. I hope this info helps.

5.2 gr. of Red Dot worked just fine with a 200gr RCBS SWC. It was very accurate and just made major for IPSC.

Hey Mike im on 75 passing weston now heading to pines, that's funny. You made some really good points. I guess the reason why I ask for others load data on this forum because it seems I can never find load data for the ingredients I have in a particular book. Its like I would have to purchase several books and dig for a recipe or worse would have to buy new ingredients.

It will depend on your gun, but w/ the correct OAL, they should run fine in most 45acps. IF I had to carry a solid bullet for some reason, that would be my choice. A huge meplate to transfer impact & disrupt tissue.

Next time I go to the range one of the things I'm going to do is see if my Jericho 941 in 45ACP will feed my reloads with the 452423 boolit. If they will reliably feed they will be my self defense load, as they have a nice big meplat, and I think that would be a better choice than a hollow point considering the speeds involved with a 45ACP cartridge. I don't have any way to test the HP boolits for expansion, but with a solid boolit with a large meplat I don't think I have much to worry about other than if it will feed.

+1 with red dot. Start with 4 grs and work up.

My Series 80 Colt and the ParaOrdnance P14 ate them with no issues. My Series 70 Colt needed them just a tad longer in order to feed them without issue. When seated out farther for the Series 70 they still worked fine in the Series 80 and the P14.

Sometime they have to be shorter. I have a load for my 1911s, shoots great. Thought I would try them in my XDTAC, wouldn't chamber. The ogive is pretty large & hits the rifling early in the short throated XD. So seating them another 0.10" solved that.

Forgot to mention Im using Bullseye. Decided to start with 3.8gr BE with the 45 ACP 200gr LRNFP at 1.19. At 1.210 I was having feeding problems in my XDm.

Also working up a load for a 45 ACP 230gr LTC. I recently got a 2 cavity lee mold, makes some pretty boolits, very few rejects compared to a lee 6 cavity LRN I have. Starting at 3.8gr BE as well, Ill post results. Mike I'll be in ft myers tomorrow, trying to hit a range out there.
