As I was cleaning excess loob from the noses of 50 280468S boolits, my curiosity got me to whip out my Starrett calipers, a new gas check, an as-cast boolit, and a sized/loobed/GCd boolit.

As-cast
.282 diameter (add a few thousandths at the mold line)
.785 long, no GC
.807 with GC
.594 distance from bottom of GC to ogive

Whipped out my caliper and used the depth gauge to figure out the base thickness of a GC, came up with .022, so the bare, unsized boolit with GC would be @ .807

Sized to .278
.278 diameter (:veryconfuhuh, how's that possible?)
.804 long
.590 distance from bottom of GC to ogive

After some mental confusion, it seems that squeezing the boolit from the sides, and holding it at the nose (top punch) is forcing most of the lead displacement to occur at the bands. There may be some shortening of the distance to the ogive, but at present, probably not enough to be significant.

I found a .280 H&I die (inbound) and when it arrives, I can size more 280468S to .280 for my 6.8mm Remington SPC.
