Just when you think you have heard it all, something else comes along and tops it. Last night I think it was on "Cops" I saw something I had seen before. A woman was unhappy with hubby and didnt want the embarassment of a divorce,so she looks in phone book. There is a store in Az that rents guns for movies and it's called "Guns for Hire". She called them wanting hubby killed. Owner finally determined she was actually serious and called cops. Undercover agent had appointment and it was all recorded. She actually handed over $2,000 and would pay remainder when done. She had a checklist of questions she methodically went through and then was arrested on the spot. Duh. Well tonight my neighbor told me something that was about as ridiculous. The insurance company was raising his rates. Reason was he no longer qualified as preferred customer due to bad credit report?????????? Excuse me,the guy is a bachelor, retired Air Force and still has some of the money he got paid in basic training. So he found out where credit report was from and contacted them. They had it on their records that he was making payments on a house in South Carolina---he has none and has never lived there. I can understand that mistake could somehow happen. But this next one. Credit report showed he was overpaid by the Air Force and refused to repay them. Any of you prior service, current service or retirees believe that?
Over paid by the USAF? It can happen. Been there and seen that. Not pay it back? No way in "you know where". The USAF would simply not pay you anything until the difference had been made up. The Mounties always get their man. The military always gets its money.

omgb---Don't know if true or not,but I always heard in the military that zero pay was illegal. I did see,in fact I cashed it and had it for a long time a guys paycheck for 2 cents. Yea,you owe them and you are on their payroll, you have no place to run.
Unfortunately, if you were over paid, you were paid thus to not give you money now is not the same as no pay because you already got paid. Confusing? Yup but that's the way it's done none the less.

Some insurance companies will raise premiums for those with poorer credit ratings. They claim that those with poorer ratings have significantly higher claims history and therefore cost the company more. Regarding the credit report, this is precisely why folks ought to check their credit report regularly. The credit agencies process a lot of data and mistakes are common. No excuse not to get one either as I think all parts of the country are entitled to a free annual credit report. There is also the issue of identity theft....

Cman, yes. Before I was in the Army, I was in the Air Force. I was over paid a very small amount each month for some period of time. Not enough to realize it, and it was so long ago, I do not even remember what it was for. Then all of a sudden one payday, no pay. Huh? I remember that! Yup, they took it all back in one fell swoop. Without even telling me ahead of time. Maybe that was why later on in the Army when I was a Sergeant Major I was so sensitive to troops pay problems. Keep something in their pocket ('course if they spend it all, that's a different problem), keep them fed, and give them a meaningful mission with resources to get the job done. sundog

I cannot over-emphasize the importance of checking your credit report at least annually. Identity theft is rampant, and not all of it can be discerned from the credit report.....but most of it can. Another place to look at closely is the annual statement from the Social Security Administration showing reported income. This can show other income you didn't know about--often illegal aliens using YOUR SSN on a forged card--to gain employment. This same info can get reported to IRS, too--although IRS seems a lot better at discerning such things than SSA. I've seen literally hundreds of such events, so look carefully at these reports.

I painted some steps at local drive inn movie thaetre one time and got paid 100.00 by check. 2 years later, IRS comes down on me for not reporting 12,000.00 income. Seems the manager just kept paying me for some time before moving on. never did find him. I finally had to settle with them and pay 900.00 to get them off my back. moodyholler

Gents, I retired from the Navy last year and they overpaid me about five hundred dollars....... When they realized it, They sent me one letter giving me a choice of $50.00/ month or a one shot repayment, for their mistake.
It was better than getting overpaid on active duty where you had no choice at all.

About a month after I was discharged I got a letter from the Navy saying they had overpaid me about $50 and wanted me to send it back. 3 weeks later I got a $300 check from the Navy where they said I was underpaid. I sent in the $50 and about two months later got another check for around $150 again saying they had shorted me. Never heard another word about it.

I've been through the government tup and take. I think it was three years ago, the IRS sent me a kind letter, informing me I owed them $84,000, for taxes on money I had made that year. Well, I went to the local office, and told them I wasn't all that sure, I had made that much money in the last ten years. I told them i was ready to go to prison, and raise my standard of living, until they could get it straightened out. After many letters and phone calls, they finally determined they owed me several hundred dollars. Maybe I should write them nasty letters every year, demanding my refund. I may confuse them!

My wife was watching the "view" the other day and related to me something very funny. One of the hosts asked the question"why does a man get an erection in the morning?', one of the other hosts responded "thats to keep him from falling out of bed".
But someone with a sense gave the correct answer. Musta been a lotta red faces that day on that show. I know I got a laugh out of it. Frank
