Just got this beauty of a mold. Any casting tips to keep the bore riding portion at .300? Linotype only?

RCBS 30-165SIL, sized .310, is my 'go-to' for the Garand. The nose dia. of my boolits measures .300/.301 cast from 4 parts Lyman #2 and 1 part lino...approx. 21-22 Bhn. I only cast this hard for the Garand to minimize nose deformation during feeding, otherwise, for my .308s (and, occasionally .30-40s) I cast from straight Lyman #2 without any appreciable leading. Sized correctly, at reasonable velocities, I think you'll find there's no real need to cast from uncut lino.

Mine drop at about .3018" with that mold and approximate wheel weight plus tin alloy. The tad bit oversize is actually a benefit I think. Cast some and see what you get. It's my 30 cal molds that cast under .300" that are about useless to me.

A super accurate boolet ! rcbs specs the boolet with lino alloy but a alloy of 15 bhn will do fine. if your boolet mould specs correctly. with that alloy as mine does

i barely make 300 with mine using ww's and tin.

what i do is manipulate whatever alloy i have untill the nose comes out with engraving marks from the chamber end.
300 might be spec for the mold but my rifle doesn't know that.
anyway my alloy is 4/6/90 for the 165 silh mold even pushed along at normal cast velocity's it's a bit more accurate than the ww and tin alloy i use for most everything else.
