Has anyone used trail boss in .45ACP and do you have any load data for 220gr RNL boolets? Thanks, Don

Don't know about .45, but it works great in my .357. Makes accurate 38 target type loads but fills the case enough that a double charge would fill the case right to the top or overflow so it would be very difficult to actually double charge it. IMR's website shows:

230 GR. LRN Trail Boss 1.200"
start 3.5 gr. 658 fps 11,200 CUP
max. 4.5 gr. 761 fps 15,100 CUP

I would bet 4.0 - 4.5 gr. would work really well with your 220 gr. boolit.

I use quite a bit of Trailboss in several calibers. I've found that it seems to work best in the highest range of expansion ratio cartridges/guns- the 45ACP would be one of those. It's a fast powder... so not the best to get the highest or last fps out of a particular cartridge.

I have used Trailboss in ACP but tightgroup is cheaper... Trailboss is mainly for bulking up the bigger black powder cases so you don't need it in 45 ACP.

CAS & SASS shooters have a new cartridge out called 45 cowboy, it is a 45 Colt case cutdown to give the same dimensions as a 45 acp case so the don't have to use the Trailboss Powder... I would think you should be able to use the 45 Cowboy loading info in a standard 45 ACP case...
I load Trailboss in all my CAS calibers but use tightgroup in 45 ACP...
