am gathering supplies to get started in bulet casting deer slugs actually. and i have about #70 lbs of wheel weights some coated some not my question is can i use the coated weights or do i use just the un coated weights.

p.s. I have been hammerin on weights for ten years so i know the difference between lead and zinc

I assume the 'coating' is just some kind of paint. Just melt 'em down (outside) and it's not a problem.

yes the coating is supposed to protect the aluminum wheels finsh its almost like a clear coat i asume everyone here who melts weight has seen it. as the coated kind are the most common anymore

Or you could just send me all the weights in question. . . .

I smelt valve stems, cigarette butts, lug nuts, shop towels, paper, motor oil, and whatever else is in the bucket. Hell, there could be a dead cat in there! I just watch the temp of the smelt and skim off the crud. Works for me.
