I was thinking about getting a PTX powder through expander but was wondering how it compares to my lyman M die. I see they make ones just for lead so I was wondering for you that have the PTX for lead how does it work and how does it compare to the M die.

I don't have commercial ones but have been using self made PTX's in Hornady and Lee powder measures that mimic the functioning of the M-die for a few years. Especially in 9mmP and 40S&W it makes a difference as this allows you to use much softer alloy as the cases don't swage down the boolit diameter.

From what I read on their web site, the PTX device does not mimic the functioning of the M-die. It only imparts flare to the case, and does not change the inside diameter of the case neck. Homemade devices may be more effective, but all I can see is the commercial device:

I know hornady made/make some just for lead was hoping it mimicked the m die.
