Went to an estate auction yesterday that listed a few guns and some reloading components. I ended up leaving with my wallet $240 lighter. I know that doesn't seem like much to a lot of you guys, but when you're unemployed and waiting to hear if you qualify for disability, it's a small fortune.
First I spent $50 for 4 old reloading manuals. More than I wanted to pay, but it was one of those " high bidder gets your choice of what's on the table deals ". Table was mostly automotive manuals, but there were 6 reloading manuals. Wouldn't you know the first guy took two of them. Like I said, it was more than I wanted to pay, but the information is invaluable.

I found dates in three of them that are from 1970-1971, so I assume the fourth is too.
Next up was the gun powder. I was high bidder at $12.50, so I got 7 pounds of factory sealed DuPont powder. There was 3#'s of 4350. 2 of 4227, one of 4198 and one of 4831. I also got a brick of CCI large rifle primers that had 800 in it and a brick of CCI large pistol primers with 900 in it for $12.50 each too. They lumped the remaining powder together in one lot. I was high bidder at $15. I got 3 full 8 oz cans of Alcan AL-5, 2 full sealed 8 oz cans of DuPont SR 4756 and 6 more cans of assorted DuPont powders that are about half full.
I was busy sorting my powder and missed a bunch of reloading dies. First high bid was $40 and he took two sets. Next thing I know a guy I know is walking in front of me with 8 sets of dies. I asked what he paid and he said $7.50 each an that was as high as he was gonna go. " Dammit !"
Next purchase was a mystery box for $5 It was a hodge podge, but there was a half a roll of 50/50 solder, a half roll of 95% tin solder and an almost full roll of Alphametals solder. The label is in bad shape on the last one, but I think I can make out the number 60, so I'm thinking 60/40 maybe? Box also included a stringer, some wire a horn speaker, screws, finish nails, a battery and a cigar box full of porcupine quills. Who puts these things together?
Next up was lots of assorted "brass". I finally won a bid at $7.50. I got one lot that had a box of 243 brass and 2 full boxes of factory Federal 30-30 ammo. One lot that had 80 rounds of 30-30 brass and one lot that had 50 rounds of 41 mag brass and 100 rounds of 41 mag ammo. I don't have a 41, but the BIL does. If he doesn't want it, I'm sure I can make a couple bucks on it at the next gun show.
My last lot for $5 was a box that contained a new Koplin cartridge belt, a complete Lee Auto prime, an RCBS impact bullet puller and powder trickler, a small primer pocket cleaning tool and an old Bonanza scale. There were also several small misc items.
I also bought a couple of things of personal interest. Had there not been two pieces of project furniture on the patio already I'd have sure brought one home. There was an old dresser covered in yellow paint and it had a number of drawer pulls missing. But " OH my " under that ugly yellow paint was solid birds eye maple. It sold for the opening bid of $35 and they had a hard time getting that. What do you call buyers remorse when you pass up something you should have bought?
Anyway, it was the best auction I've ever been to. These are the kind of deals I always hear other people talking about getting. Well today, this blind hog found the trough.... Dale
