Just picked up a Rock Island 22 TCM 9mm combo 1911 style pistol. The problem is I'm going to go broke buying 40gr jacketed bullets for the TCM because it is so much fun to shoot. I have zero experience with lite cast bullets in .224 and was wondering if I can push them to 2000fps without a gas check. I should have no trouble getting the bullets to at least 20 or better and getting the correct sizing but I really have no idea if it can be done.

You're not going to have satisfactory results running plain based bullets that fast.

That is what I was afraid of. Thanks

I know you asked about cast boolits. I have been looking at the NOE 35 grain mold. Unable to cast boolits at this time due to back problems, so I have decided to load the jacketed stuff. Go to http://www.ammosupplywarehouse.com/index.html and check out their prices. $10 per hundred and $90 per thousand last time I checked. Pretty inexpensive compared to other jacketed stuff.

Also you can purchase a 32 H&R length gauge for a lee trimmer and then use a drill and file to thin it to .220. You will then have to cut a very small amount off the pin that goes through the primer hole. Makes a great 22 TCM trimmer.

I also bought a thousand empty brass cases to reload. Could have made the stuff from 223 brass, but that back problem makes that somewhat problematic. You will need a neck turning tool if you make your own brass. And the main problem you will find with cast boolits will be the length of the boolit. That problem also comes up with jacketed stuff other than the Armscor.

Having said all that, I really enjoy shooting my 22 TCM pistol. Fun, fun, fun, until Momma takes the credit card away!

I am sincerely hoping to get one of the 22 TCM rifles that should be released this July. (2800 fps with factory ammo!)

I was very suprised at how cheap the brass is ordered a NOE mold to try. Like you said this thing is like shooting a 22mag on steriods and far too easy to use up 300rds in a hurry.

Go to the Vendor section and order the gas checks from 338UltraMag. The aluminum checks will work just fine. You will want a hard alloy for the 22s.
I cast all of my 22 cal boolits from linotype as it fill out very well and reduced the number of culls and is hard enough for most of my loads.
I use heat treated linotype for my high velocity loads, just make sure to gas check them before heat treating if using aluminum checks. The 34 BHN is hard enough the aluminum will extrude up the side of the boolit when sized.
My highest velocity so far is 5 shots at 3.619 fps with 2 moa group out of my 23" bull barreled Contender. Most of my loads are in the same range you are shooting for.

I could not wait so I had (2 ea) Ruger #3's rebarreled with 20", 12 twist barrels and threaded muzzles for sub sonic loads with a suppressor, one for me one for Dad. I just got them back and have not had a chance to shoot mine yet but plan to this weekend coming. It will be with jacketed bullets at first then I will move to cast.
