View Full Version : What's it worth?

Doing the pawnshop crawl today, I found a Marlin 336 in 35 Remington, with a Tasco scope for $175. It has a little light rust on the reciever. I would think that would make a great cast bullet gun.
The one that interested me was a Winchester 30/30, octagon barrel with buckhorn sights called a Winchester Special. This would need to have the buttstock replaced because it had been in a fire. It really suffered no other damage other than needing a little TLC to clean it up. Anyone have an idea what that one might be worth? I should be able to get it faily cheap because he doesn't know what to do with it.
Thanks,
Crabo

I second pumpguys opinion. $175 is an excellent deal. Any idea what model it is? or age? the 35 is a versitile round and is fun to play with. You can really wring a lot more out of them if you handload.

I would never buy a gun that was in a fire. No telling what happened to the heat treating aspects of the barreled-action. ... felix

I didn't write any numbers down, but I can go back and look next week. I was really looking for a 357 lever gun. To make matters worse, he told me he would order me any gun I wanted, he just wanted to make $10 on the deal.
I keep going back and forth between a lever gun and an encore rifle. Two extremes, I know. I want something to shoot cast in. I don't get to hunt much anymore, so the 35 is a little less appealing vs a 357.

The marlin around here goes for over 200 used. $175 might get you one in rough shape in my area if you're in the market for it.

I am in the market for a 35 cal - but I think I would really rather a 35 Winchester.
All thought the 35 Rem and a Marlin has a lot going for it.

I looked at a Marlin/Sears/JC Higgins 35 Rem today, cheapest out the door was $275. Fixed 4 and I don't rememeber if the original front sight was on it or not.
Slight surface rust - bore looked good - but I THOUGHT that $275 was just a little too much.
Thoughts from anyone?

If you decide to drive up . Dominion Outdoors is right beside the Expoland off Interstate 64 . They were in beautiful downtown Stuarts Draft , but a month or so ago they moved to this new place closer to I64 !!!
