Didn't have anything to do this afternoon and the new Ranch dog .44 mould was laying there-----.
I pluged in the old Lyman pot and read the directions for the mould.
The suggested method for conditioning the mould is to smoke the cavities and apply some lube to the wear points.
I did just that. The boolits were coming out a little rough looking so I tried brushing some of the soot out of the cavities, wrong moove. The toothbrush has nylon bristles. How do you get the melted nylon off?
About an hour later I was able to start casting again with the nearly ruined brand new mould. I think I cast about sixty good ones.
Anyone know where you can get more durable polishing bobs for the Dremel tool?
My usual tool for scraping aluminum is a sharpened popsicle stick and I am about out of them.
Also I want to warn you guys not to cut the heavy center twisted wire off a bore brush as it will still gouge the meplat of the boolit mould.
Never smoked a mould before and I never will again! I like my boolits shiney.
Sixty boolits in nearly three hours, good thing it is a two cavity.

.................If you haven't gotten all the nylon off, put the mould in a chest freezer. The freezer on your reefer may get it cold enough also. When it's been in there long enough for your tongue to stick to it :-) you should be able to just flick or wipe the nylon off.

I agree, keeping your reefer in the freezer is much safer than keeping it hidden in your shoes! MY wifes cat found mine years ago and thought it was catnip. He had it all over himself rolling around in it. Nothing worse than smoking burn cat hair! That was many, many years ago BTW.

Want to thank you guys for all the help. Seems that I am needing more and more help recently. Why is that?
Thanks Buckshot, why couldn't I remember that? I worked in aerospace as a sheet metal mechanic and used all kinds of materials. Been there done that.

I guess I am all spaced out?:drinks:

Don't remember where I stashed my reefer!

Think I know where the liquor cabinet is though!

Found my way back to the house from the shop!

Sixty boolits in three hours, sheesh.

Talk about speed casting LOWBALL .
