Bought one of these today, now is a heck of a time to ask. But anybody have one and what are your thoughts? Everything I read is good.

Clean and mounted the scope last night. I'll keep you folks informed. I't was $660 never thought I would own one but I cut some of the herd and picked this one up.

Well it blowed up. I took it out with a Weaver 6.5X24 40/44 series scope and didn't have enough elevation. So I brought it home and put on a 3X9. I was shooting Winchester Dynopoints, CCI and some RWS. All 40 grain. instructions said 40 or 50 gr. ammo only. The gun went off like a bomb after about 75 shots. Blew the base off a case, stuck the rest of the case in the chamber. Blew the magazine apart. A lot of the fired cases were bulged. Don't really think I need this thing around anymore.

Please let us know what the Company does for you, and anything, as for the reasons it blew up. I have a Magnum Research BFR, and will be watching your responses from the company.

Dang, I never would of thought any modern built rifle could not handle the pressure of the 22 mag. At this point I'll never buy one. It is a warning flag they only want you to shoot 40-50 grain ammo in it as well.

I'll get some pictures up. I didn't realize it till I read the owner's manual. And yes I read it before shooting it. They have a small hole and vent system under the barrel to bleed off pressure. I didn't like the sound of it when I heard that. I bought a 22 mag because that's what I wanted. Not a 22 mag that vents off some of the operating pressure. The gun didn't shoot very well before it detonated. But I'm not going to bad mouth MR I'm sure they will make it right. The Winchesters were running 1400 FPS. Armcor Scorpion 1750 FPS and the RWS 1900 FPS. Don't remember what the CCI ran. It was a RWS that popped.

No I didn't get hurt just some hot powder stinging on the face. I'm left handed so I was right in the way.

Your post came just in time. I've been looking at the same gun for my grandsons birthday. NOT now. I think i'll stick with a 22lr. Thanks for the post.

Several of the brass had the base ballooned out, the one picture shows where it ruptured where the firing-pin strike. The other two photos show a small round disk. That's the back of the shell. Case is still in the chamber. If I had known they had to drill a small hole in the bottom of the barrel to relieve pressure I would never have bought it to start with. Must be a reason Ruger stopped making them.

Was considering this rifle also, glad I went a different direction. I picked up a Brno 611. She is a beauty. Waiting on scope now

For the people smarter than me(most of u)
the point of the bleed hole and nothing lighter than 40g....
Wouldn't the heavier projectile be a at a higher pressure than the lighter round?
i know, for example, top straps suffer with lighter projectiles in revolvers due to more flame cutting etc, but I didn't believe that was directly related to pressure???

Nevertheless , seems like walking a fine line w that gun

Any updates as to what caused the damage? Did Magnum Research take care of you?
