View Full Version : Lee 358-105-SWC won't feed in M&P9 ~ What to try next ?

The title says it all, if I seat the boolets a little long they won't chamber fully and if I seat them deeper they won't feed into the chamber.
I have tried just about everything with this boolit and I am ready to buy another mold. The boolet needs to size .358. It will probably be a Lee because of cost.
I'm looking for recommendations from the knowledge base here..
Thanks in advance...

I'm experimenting with the Lee 358-125-RF sized at .358 weighing 130gr in my XD right now. You have to run them awfully short in the XD for them to work (1.02" OAL). You might run into the same problem however.

They run much better and barely lead compared to the 356-124-2R I had been using. Will be seeing how they run in an IDPA match tomorrow. Only shot about 200 of them so far.

I have used the Lee 120 gr TC with great success in every 9mm. My 6-cavity really rolls them out.

the 358-105-swc worked in my glock 17 but not a beretta 92fs. When I powder coated the bullet it fed in neither. I switched to the 358-124-rf and it feeds fine in both.

Ok, Midsouth has Lee 358-125-RF, 356-120-TC, and 356-125-2R double cavity's for $17.43 and I can drive there... I may get all three and hope the last two drop .358's and one works.
Are there any others ?

If you like a light boolit, the 356-95-rf drops at 358 from my mold and works fine in my 9mm.
I have a Taurus pt92 with a Beretta 92fs barrel installed.
Any of the molds you just listed should work well and they all drop at .358 or larger for me except the 120tc which drops at .357.

I use the Lee 102 gr. RN in my 380 and 9mm, works great.

Have you tried triming the case shorter and seating the boolit out futher? Reduce the charge a couple of grains and work backup. If you have a factory round, try and seat the boolit to where the sholder of the swc is at the same location as the factory bullet's fattest point.

rond,
I saw that 102-1R I may try that too, I have tried everything and they will either jam or the bolt won't close up tight enough for it to fire, the wife was away today and I messed with it all day...again..

Increase taper crimp and seat a bit deeper.

When I seat deeper the round hangs up as it starts into the chamber..

I have the small problem in my Glocks, so I went back to the Lee 120TC. Its a shame as the Lee 105 SWC is super accurate.

When I seat deeper the round hangs up as it starts into the chamber..

I second the 120gr TC. I tried all of Lees 9mm molds (in an M&P) and that's the one I found that works best. So well that I have a cone in 40 and 45 too.

Did you increase taper crimp?

Yes sir, it hangs up on an angle with the boolit entering the chamber..

+1 Used aluminum tape in the mould to increase size to .358"

We have a board here where you can ask someone with a particular mold to send you some samples.

I have one of the 105gr SWC molds for use in 9mm, but I have not used it. A large part of the reason I have not used it is I am so pleased with the 358-125-RF in the 9mm.. It looks strange with the crimp groove, but it shoots great. I use it mostly in 9mm Berettas and Walthers.

Can you describe the feeding problem you are having with the 105gr SWC?

It hangs up as it leaves the mag and starts in the chamber. Wedges .

I was looking at getting the 105 SWC mold to try in my 9mm but then opted for the Lee 120 TC as several suggested it to me as being a good boolit. Glad I did as it functions perfectly in my 9mm. only 15 gr heavier (give or take). I size 'em to .357 for my 9mm.

The nice thing about the 120 TC is that they drop at .358 from range lead out of my mold. They work great "as cast" in my 38 Spls.

I hope you get your problem figured out on the SWC - let us know what the solution is if you get it worked out.

I recommend the 356-120 TC.

It works in all of my 9mm's, including my 9MM Largo, which is finicky. The 358-125 RF did not work well for me in the 9 MM--requiring very deep seating to fit in the chamber, but does fine for my 38's. I have a 4 cavity 358-242 122 grainer that also works well.

I have not had good results with light for caliber boolits in the 9 mm. By the time they are hot enough to function well, they are leading up the bore.

I got some sample .358-135 FN NOE boolits and the feed exceptionally well. If you can get some samples of that, I would highly recommend it. I'm going to order one of those molds but it will be at least a week before I get the mold and probably several days after that before I can sit down and cast. I've now tried about 1/2 dozen boolit shapes and this one blows the others away bar none for feeding and seating cleanly.

NOE version of 358242 is working great in my daughter's M&P9 over 4.0 grains Bullseye. Lee 356-125-2R also very good.
