That is the kind of post I enjoy the most! I imagine you will have a hunting buddy for the next 40 years or more!

Not only makes me smile to see the young man shooting, (and shooting well!) but I think you've made up my mind about getting my wife one,,,,,,

Friendly critique: Have him pull the buttstock up and into his shoulder and then relax back into it. Also, move the non firing hand beneath the rear of the buttstock to provide support to the buttstock.

We do a buddy load work up. I used to shoot 5 shot groups and move up. I now load up double and we each shoot our own groups. Looks like today it wasn't the load it was the shooter.
Good way to keep me in check.

He knew I was taking a picture. Might have been posing. We use a "v" shaped sand bag under the buttstock, paired with a harris bipod for accuracy testing......still haven't built the portable benchrest.

Shooting range looks like mine too. Nice going and congratulations on raising a fine son. Yes they soon best us at wrestling and shooting. I guess that is the way we want it to be. But maybe not so soon! LOL.

Revived this thread instead of starting a new one. Over a year has past since my youngest son outshot me at 50 yards. Today a new milestone was reached in a future booliteer. Shooting the same .243 handi rifle, but with a twist. He loaded his own ammo. He's been at my loading bench watching and asking questions since he could talk. I decided at 12 years old why not, so I turned him loose with little intervention.
It was funny! He new exactly what he was doing and only asked a couple of questions. He carefully ran 50 cases through the lee collet sizer, then to the universal expander. Primed charged and seated boolits to a load we have dedicated to that rifle.http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08/23/be01516fd5a5377eb20ded653111015c.jpg
This time he shot his groups at 100 yds and amazed me. Seeing the size of his groups and knowing I can't compete with them, I just stuck with my marlin levergun!

Nice Job!

I would be excited with those groups. I started reloading in the 6th grade. At first, my dad reloaded with me, then I prepped brass myself and he double checked what I was doing once I had the thrower set and the brass ready to load, and I would run it off. By 8th or 9th grade, I was doing it all myself and just bugging him to take me to buy more components or to go to the range.

I rarely take time to shoot for groups but I am very active in doing action pistol, 3 gun, and lever action silhouette, and load all of my own ammo using skills I learned as a teen. My nephew is only two years old, but one day, I hope to share the same knowledge with him.

Teach him the military sling, prone, and sitting positions and you can dispense with the shooting bench.

Great job he shooting better than most adults. And reloading his own ammo as well my grin would be so big you couldn't see my face if it were me. Way to go dad you have a shooter.
