Communicated with Tom at Accurate Molds. I'm shooting .475 jacketed bullets now and he recommends going .001-.002 oversize with a mold. RCBS makes a .476 sizing die so should I go with a .478 aluminum mold? In the past I have just bought off the shelf RCBS bullet molds and have always sized them.

Anyone here shoot a 480 Ruger? I am conflicted on whether to cast a mid 300 gr or low 400 gr bullet, have read that the heavier bullet shoot more accurately out of the SRH.

Its not easy finding CBs in these sizes/cal so buying and testing is difficult, but not impossible.

The anwer depends on your cylinder throat diameter and bore dimensions. There are more than a few threads in the handguns section where folks much more knowledgeable on this subject than me address your issue.

Can I slug a barrel with a cast bullet?

Sure. If you think about it, you slug your barrel every time you take a shot.

Use the softest alloy you have for ease of work.

Egg shaped fishing sinkers(walmart) work better. They have a hole in the middle that lets them compress and start easier. They come in several different weights/diameters.

50 cal roundballs would work well, too. If you use sinkers, make sure that they are lead, and not zinc. The zinc ones are way to hard to use for slugging a throat or barrel.

Those big boolits are funny. My molds casts at .476" and I use a .476" Lee die they made for me. I do almost no sizing and just use the die to remove excess lube. After aging they grow to .478" anyway.
I would not go to .478" but maybe at the most .477".
This will depend on the SRH dimensions of course so slug the gun.
The dimensions on my BFR .475 are .475 groove and .4765" throats, it loves a .476" boolit. The gun loves 400 to 420 gr boolits with it's 1 in 15" twist.
The SRH will have 1 in 18-3/4" so a little lighter boolit is not out of order. The Freedom .475 loved 350 gr boolits. I would probably go around 350 to 375 since the velocity will be lower in the .480.

My .480 ruger loves the 400gr lee!

The Lee is a great boolit in my .475, very accurate but it is going over 1350 fps. When I tried lighter loads with HS-6 it still shot very well so it should work fine in the .480.
With HS-6 I was still around 1" at 50 yards. I have no velocity figures for it.
