I have been shooting the rcbs 45-405 fn and i like it, however it is a little overkill for our NY whitetal deer. I have been looking at the 45-300 and it looks like a winner. less recoil, higher velocity, flatter trajectory, and still a .45 cal. hole. Any one have personal experience with that bullet in a guide gun? 1-20 twist, ballard rifling. Thanks, Stu.

My RCBS 45-300 drops bullets a little on the small side, barely .457", wish they dropped at .461".

My 35-300-FN (GC) mould drops them at .4595 with COWWs + 2% tin. Right at .460 with #2 alloy. However, I cast them out of 16-1 alloy which also drops them at .459 and use those for hunting in my H&R OM trapdoor and my Siamese Mauser 450-400-70 (45-70). I use the same load in both and it is a very accurate and deadly bullet. I push them at TD psi's with RL7 to 1800 fps with excellent accuracy and terminal performance. I see no reason why they should not do as well in your Guide gun.

There is also a group buy currently open for the improved Lee 310RF, those run close to 320gr with GC, and the options on the group buy (I *think*) are for a .460" as well as .434" and .452."

I had an RCBS 300 for my Marlin 95, used it for a number of years, it to dropped right at 457.

Last year I nabbed a nice 457122 HP Lyman that drops 460 the RCBS went down the road because of size and gas checks, hated them and the 457122 does not need them.

weight is right at 330 grains with my copy of Lyman #2 think on it it is a good design as well

I'd highly recommend one of these:

Had my machinist friend to rework a 45-300-FN and a Lyman 457191 and hollow point them. Great bullets once I got the diameter over .460" but every one of each I have ever encountered vast small./beagle

One fork horn bull moose fell to that boolit from my Marlin. Muzzle velocity was 2150 fps. Shot was about 70 yards. Hit was at the base of the neck front of shoulder. Total penetration with large exit hole. Two vertebrae completely shattered. DRT! Alloy was quenched WW at bhn-20.
