Loaded some .38 Special with my new orphan, MB I-358755

I am not that great of a handgun shooter; so I like to tinker with interesting loads. I loaded up one of my oddest, and newest, orphaned designs yet. A Modern Bond I-358755 dual cavity I found mislabeled with bad photos. Kind of looks like a man with a top hat on to me. It is to long for a .357 case since the top band is to small to crimp over at .352". Huge crimp groove, odd tapered base(.362" top-.354" bottom), long nose, and loads right at max OAL of 1.55" when crimped in the groove. It will be interesting to see how it shoots. Anybody else like oddball orphan molds?

I think I found my new favorite .38 Special SWC with this one. It topped the accuracy of my other choices in my 6" Security Six, and the oddly tapered base makes it easier on brass(very little flare) and to load. I might have to get a copy made by Accurate with a smaller crimp groove and a full size front band so I can crimp over it for .357.

I can't resist odd ball moulds. And some shoot very well indeed.

You might call that one "Pilgrim". It reminds me of that stylized Mass Bay Colony hat.

I think I need to get Accurate to make one or try for a NOE group buy that can be loaded in .357(top band not big enough to crimp over). I was trying to use up some Clays today and discovered 3.1 gr in .38 Special works really well in my Security Six. I shot all 4 corners of the target at 15 yards like this with one cylinder each after realizing the center I was plinking at was a lot smaller than my usual groups. My essential tremor really limits my handgun accuracy, but I was kind of proud of these.

That looks like a Gordon Boser design--but seems to shoot much better. Congratulations on the success of your odd-ball. I have a few uncommon molds that I enjoy, the 311-245, the 311-419 and a couple of others, but none like yours.

The modern bond catalog says Ness designed it, of Ness safety bullet fame.

It could quite possibly pre-date the 357 mag, and have been originally intended for 38 Spl & 38-44.

I've a soft spot for for the oddball ones myself. I'm very impressed with the accuracy you got from this one.
