I'll put this here 'cause I can't remember which site, much less which forum I read it on. Do you use .357Max or Mag brass to crunch thru a .300 Blackout die to make a rimmed version. Playing with the idea of using a Cadet action I have for such a project. Thanks, GW

357 Magnum and 300 AAC Blackout/300 blk are similar in case length and capacity.

357Mag brass is much shorter than 357Max brass, too short to use for making 300aac.

Goat, a rimmed version of what? I take it you are not making 300Blackout but a rimmed version of something? Or a rimmed version of the 300Blackout?? Why? Just use the 30-30 - it is ballistically about equal to the 300Blackout.

Just playing with ideas, Wayne. Got a receiver, a .30 cal barrel, and way too much time on my hands. GW

That would be interesting using .357 mag brass and light .30 boolits in like the 110 - 125 grn range.

According to Mike Bellms site, he uses Max brass, but it would be pretty interesting if Mag brass could be used.

As the 300 is one of only two bottle neck cartridges allowed for deer hunting in Illinois, I can definitely see having a rim to pull on with gloves in January,,,,

It sound like it would make a very nice rifle. I would opt for the 357 Mag brass. Just because of the availablity. Also it woule be different. A Cadet in a 30-357, in my opion, would be alot of fun. Doesn't matter if something else is close.

I say go for it.

I actually worked this out not long ago but decided to take a different route for other reasons. Not anything wrong with it just doing something different. Anyway....I talked to C-H and they had at the time 4 different sets of 30/357 mag dies in stock and of course would make anything I wanted very reasonably. I calculated the powder I would use and bullet so the case would be 100% filled. The dies would include a form die to push the shoulder where I wanted it and then trim to length. Give them a call, very accommodating people.

Unless you just want something new, look at the .30 reece. Brass and dies are available from Carson Reece. Works great for IHMSA silhouettes.
