Found me a 1949 Marlin 336-SC with short magazine, outside used hard, bore perfect. Guess I am back in the .30-30 business. What are your favorite molds and powders for cast, guys? I'm thinking a 180-grain FP for serious work and a lighter pill for accurate plinking, squills, rabbits, etc. Got a 12-year-old boy at hand who could use an easy-shooting confidence builder ...

SAECO 325 for Marlin MG barrels
Lyman 311291 for standard barrels

I have an RCBS 180 FN mold that I am "fixin" to try.

I've gotten great results from the Lee C309-150F in my 30AS.

..............M93 Marlin, Lee C309-113F, Lee C309-160, Lyman 311291, 311041, 311407, all over 21.0grs H4198 + Dacron. You should get in on the current 6 cavity Lee custom for the mod'ed 311407.

My 24" barrel 336A likes the RCBS 30-180 FN with 34 grains of MR-3100 and Lyman 311407 with 25 grains of WC-844. It also shoots the Lyman 311466 with 18 grains of H-4227 + dacron really well. For a plinking/small game load, 6 grains of Unique under the Lyman 311316, which a friend cast and gave me. I sure would like to have that mold!
My '94 carbine is fed 25 grains of WC-844 with the Lyman 311466, flat nosed by using a flat punch and, in conditions when these old eyes can see the front sight, shoots pretty good.-JDL

I like the RCBS 180fn for heavy bullets and the lee 113 fp for plinkers. Gianni.

You have a find there. You'll not go wrong with a RCBS 30-150-FN AND a 30-180-FN. I have both and shoot them about 50/50 percentage wise and both are good. The RCBS bullets are made just right for the .30/30 and crimping. With that old cut rifled Marlin, you ought to be able to shoot 1-1 1/2" groups at 100 yards all day long with a scope./beagle

Been having great luck with the 150 gr. Lee Flat nose and 21-23 gr. of medium powders like RX-7 and 4198. For the little Lee Soup Can 113 gr. have been getting great accuracy around 10 gr. of Blue Dot or 8 gr. Unique. Another one for that bullet was 14 gr. SR 4759 if you have any. The 170 gr. 311041 shoots great in my guns with 30 gr. H-335 or 31.5 gr. Win. 748. My Marlin likes .311. The Winchester & Savage 340 like the .310 size. Either straight wheelweights or water quenched in the light loads but strictly water quenched for the heavy ones. At least until I find something that works better.
