Hello,

I have a new Ruger Bisley 45 colt 5.5" that I will pickup this weekend and was wondering if anyone has tried the old H&G #130 in this caliber. I have had great results in my 1911 45 acp using this bullet, that drops about 203 grains, and wanted to try light loads with trail boss in the 45 colt. It is to my understanding that the large case capacity of the 45 colt will work against me in such a light bullet. Has anyone had any success with this style or weight class?

Regards,

Ryan

Sorry cant answer, but im curious too. My h&g #68 clone shoots so darn well in my 1911 that i figure it must shoot good in a 45 colt revolver too. But, the lack of crimp groove is what concerns me.

The extra case capacity should not be a problem using trail boss. My favorite load at the moment is about 5.7 gr behind a 255 round-flat nose. Id think that whatever fits underneath the boolit aught to shoot ok, then dial it in from there.

That is, if the taper crimp works for preventing boolit pull. Maybe you could roll crimp over the front driving band. Id like to hear of other people trying it

It should work just fine. I've shot tons of H&G 68 bullets out of my Ruger 45 colt revolver without any problems. I use a 45 acp taper crimp die, but you could also roll crimp over the shoulder. I've never tried pushing them too hard, just mild cowboy action loads.

Thanks Steve! I'll try the 45 acp taper crimp die and the 45 colt roll crimp die to see what works best. I appreciate the input.

I have used the 68 and the lyman 200gr swc by using the taper crimp die also.
they shoot well in my revolvers and feed through the lever guns just fine.
I keep the loads down to reasonable levels and have not had an issue with set-back or boolit pull.
I even shoot a 165gr boolit in the 45 colt it feels like shooting a light 38 special load.

I shoot a 160 grain from a Lee mould in my Beretta Stampede and it works great on top of UNIQUE.
