I just tried my first 6 gang mold. It's a 9mm 124 rn tl . I've had experience with lee 2 cavity before. Anyway it's hard to close the sprue plate unless I open the mold a touch. Even then it is stiff. I tried to loosen the bolt it closes on and realized that it is not adjustable. Anyone else have this problem

Did you try putting some 2 stroke oil on the sprue plate? All of my lee Molds wont close without the mold being open a bit without putting some 2 stroke oil on the sprue plate.

Yep, lube the spru plate.

I slightly loosen the bolt a touch anyway. They usually come loose soon in any case so I loosen them to start with and avoid the tightness upon closing altogether. It seems to be easier on the mold that way and avoids the tendency to open the mold slightly.
I just handle the mold gently so I don't damage anything by forcing it. If it has to be forced to close I loosen things so it doesn't require force to close.
I keep a pair of pliers next to the casting table to tighten it during the run periodically if it gets too loose.

I drill and tap a set screw for the hold down bolt and the pivot bolt before using the mould so that adjustments stay put.

Make sure you lube the edges of the sprue plate where it closes into the "latch" that is a wear point too so keep it lubed. I dab a little two stroke oil on it about every 15 to 20 casts.
Works great.

The drill and tap method works well.
