American Service men & women,

If you sacrificed your some or all.
Wether you used a gun & bomb, or mop & broom.
Wether you served in our beginning or start today.
Wether I agree with the mission or not.
When your home or away.

I thank God for you, I thank you,

My thanks, too - but we did what we should have done, and what others should have done, or at least supported. I feel embarrassed when I'm thanked for my service - I just did what I was supposed to do, serve my country.
When I left SEA (Thailand), my boss told me I could write myself up for any reward up to, and including, a Bronze Star. Well. My Uncle Donald won a Bronze Star in WWII for taking out a machine gun nest. Of course, his reward included the 'V' device indicating it was won with Valor. Without the 'V' device, all a Bronze Star does is say one did his job. Well. One is supposed to do their job, so why reward them for something they were supposed to do, anyway? I declined the offer. Many didn't, and one can see clerks with Bronze Stars. And I am still embarrassed whenever someone thanks me for my service...
