I started casting with a Lee TL-314-90-SWC in early 2012 for a Omark 308. Over the last two years I have absorbed a great deal mostly from this website.
Today I shot my first sub-MOA cast bullet load which I am very proud of. I have jacketed sub-MOA loads however the cast loads eluded me.

I think I'll have a beer - matter of fact I'm already having one as I write this.

Just in case you think this is a fluke, here is another, not quite as small group shot today as well:

The only unfortunate thing is that I don't know velocity as I have loaned my chrongraph to a friend. The last load I have velocity for was 40.5grains for 1812fps so the 42.0grain load is slightly north of that. I will confess the rifle is a part of accuracy like this. It is a custom M70 supergrade, re-barrelled by Queensland gunsmith Allan Swan with a lovely heavy barrel, sweet trigger and was shot off sand bags.

Next job is to try some softer loads for hunting, ACWW and 50:50, if I get accuracy then I'm go to go for a hunting load.

Velocity isn't terribly important, that's a very nice group. My goal with boolits is 1.5" but sub MOA is a a pretty cool accomplishment. Congrats, I'll get another glass of wine to toast your achievement!

Congratulations and good shooting. The whelens WILL shoot when you find the right loads. It definitely feels good when you've worked hard at it and it comes together. It does sound like a fine rifle capable of good accuracy, but you were the one holding it and pulling the trigger....equally important. That's about 1900 fps? Gonna be hard for for anything to hold that 250 gr. inside it.

too bad you missed the bullseye :kidding:

Kidding aside, wish I could show targets like those. good shooting.

[ you estimate the velocity to be "slightly north" of 1812 ft/sec. Since you are shooting on the other side of the equator from most of us, does that mean more or less? ]

taking in account that we are upside down and bringing in the Coriolis effect, although we shoot north the bullets veer south.

I'm OK with that.

100metres (down here we don't use those funny measurements based on the distance of some dead kings nose to thumb (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yard))
