Here's a link to another discussion we had in the handguns forum. Should make a nice field gun.

Don't be so hasty. I tend to agree to a point however if it helps keep the firearms market and industry bouyant it is good for us all.

Sounds like a stab at filling the gap where .32-20s should go. Might make it. Don't know why Ruger don't makes a run of .32-20 Blackhawks. I love the Buckeye I have. At any rate, it will make nice .32 Mag brass when cut down./beagle

I think the 327 may see some interest. But just like a lot of other better mouse traps out there, once the new wears off it may fall from interest.

Look through the new Hornady catalouge, there are some stabs at getting in on the short mag action by Ruger. I am suprised they did such a stunt, but I had to have a friend of mine explain to me what was so great about the first caliber they came out with. Fairly good reason's for the most part, but was there a need for it, I really doubt it.

Just a thought, they may come out with 32SW brass remarked as 327 short mag, lol.

I think if you brought out the same round with a different name you could sell it to the gun public.

Well, If'n you don't have a .32 I for one can't see any reason to get any of the other anemic .32 chamberings. I'm converting a Kframe S&W in .32 H&R Mag (magnum what? pea shooter?) which has a chamber that was already .100" too long anyway. Was in the process of making a .30 carbine rimmed case from 7.62X38R brass when the 327 was announced. Almost the same thang! Figured I'd wait and go to the 327. I've been studying the idea of wide range game rounds. I figure the .32 (in a rifle - or .30 Carbine) will do almost anything below deer size and long range. Sumpthin like a .35 whelen will do the rest. Talkin cast boolits here. Is the 327 brass available yet?

No. Starline hasn't responded if they will make it yet. I'm hammering them with emails. They told me not to email them once a day. So now I email them twice a day.

Loaded ammo isn't starting to ship yet. Midway has it listed on their site but none in stock. I got reminders setup for when it arrives.

I hope you are sending the same emails to Federal since it is the .327 FEDERAL magnum. They should be making brass for it as well.

I hope the marketing people don't overlook the large field potential of this round since they are marketing this caliber as a SD round. While I like the SP101, I'm waiting for them to come out in a better "field" revolver with a 5" - 7" barrel, a lever action or single shot carbine, etc. I would also love to have a 10" contender barrel made for silhouettes in this round as well. With a 1 in 10 twist barrel it could shoot some 150 gr. boolits to just about the right velocity for Bigbore and then shoot lighter boolits for Field Pistol.

I have a 32 magnum in a 6 shot snub revolver
Not a bad piece or caliber, but dont see the need for a 327 mag

Since when does Federal make component brass?

6" 32 H&R Mag ballistics from a barrel half as long.

Well it sounds like the .327 mag is what the .32 H&R should have been all along. Perhaps if H&R would have come up with this so long ago the .32s would be more popular today.

I think the problem is people are viewing this as compared to the .357 magnum. But if compared to .380s, .38spls, and other .32s it has promise.

If Ruger brings out a single six vaquerito chambered in the .327 I'll be real tempted. And if Rossi puts out a '92 in the same chambering I'll snap for sure.

The Marlin 94/Win 92-class rifles and SP-101 with adjustable sights and 4"+ barrel length would all appeal to me in no small way as field/trail guns. I prefer a double-stack autopistol of at least 9mm caliber or a medium-frame D/A 357 Magnum for counter-carjacker operations.

Since Federal is making the cartridge, I'd make sure you have a source for brass and/or loaded ammunition before you jump to the 327. I bought my 1st .32 H&R within a year or so after it was introduced. Federal was the only source of ammo and/or brass. In several years of looking in gunshops all over WA and ORE, I found exactly 1 box of brass. I couldn't find any once fired or new brass or loaded ammo in gunshows, or anyplace else. I wound up buying loaded ammunition wherever I could find it. After several years, I found a source for the 98 gr. lead load for a reasonable price. There was NO other source of ammo at any price that I could find. I still have 4 boxes of the factory lead load stuck back on my shelf for a "rainy day". Pilgrim

If S&W can stuff 7 -8 rounds of .357 Mag in an N frame, wouldn't a 9 round .327 Mag N frame size revolver make a fun field gun? Smith, Taurus, Ruger, are you listening?

I jumped on the .32 "band wagon" when the .32 H&R was chambered in the Ruger Single Six. As soon as they came on the market, I also bought an S&W 632 (4" Kit Gun) and shortly thereafter, an S&W Model 16-4 (6" K-.32 with full underlug barrel). Just after I did this, Federal (the ONLY source for .32 Mag brass) quit supplying ALL components to their customers. I was forced to fall back on .32 S&W L brass. It ended up being a blessing in disguise, as the Federal .32 mag brass was junk (I had more than one lot and every box of fired ammo left me with splits in a half-dozen cases - that is, every time I fired them). On the other hand, I was only really interested in target loads, and fortunately, the "first nighters" in .32 S&W L worked extremely well. I bought several thousand of them from a local commercial loader and never looked back.

When Starline advertised that they were going to produce the .32 H&R cases, I ordered a couple of thousand of those for myself and a friend (actually pre-ordered). Starline makes excellent brass and they delivered EXACTLY when they said they would.

As an aside, I still have both Smith's and have added a Ruger SP101 (4") in the .32 H&R. This caliber remains one of my all time favorites (as do the revolvers mentioned) and I shoot several thousands of them a year.

Since I am a reloader, I can get all I need from a .32 with a reloaded .32 H&R in a strong revolver, so probably won't be buying a .327 Federal (after all of these years, I still have a bad taste in my mouth from those Federal policies and cases). At the NRA Convention, I told them so (for all the good that THAT did...).

We could make our own brass out of eithet 32-20, or .357 brass. They're about two months late right now with getting it on the shelves. Midway is playing the "backorder it, we'll ship it when we get it" game. Can't afford their ten dollar shipping for each backordered item as they come in. Especially when they're just phishing for enough orders to justify them getting some in. They're probably available out there somewhere, but I ain't found any yet. Need to have some so I can rechamber my S&W model 19/16 (hybrid, bastard, mongrel, whatever, it's as nice as a Smith gets, which is nice).

If I had bought a new revolver for the .327 Federal, I would just buy some .32 H&R cases, load them to the power level I needed or wanted and wait until the .327's became available at some later date. There is absolutely NO reason to wait on Federal to get their act together (if ever).

Just a thought...

I have yet to hear from Federal on the matter.
