Aawhile back I read a post that referenced the "22 bator" mold. As I am thinking about getting into 22 casting for 223 can somebody please educate me as to what this 22 bator is? Thank you

It's a 55 grain .225 with a flat-nosed tip , gas-check base and 2 lube grooves. Do not know where the name " bator" comes from, unless its the name of the designer or something.

It is a good boolit design.... If you are gunna cast in 22 cal, its a must have in your inventory....

For a while some of the cavities cast oversize nose. I would imagine by now that has been fixed but be aware if buying used.

Midsouth sells them:

I had one that was oversized. During the frenzy I sold it on eBay and it paid for a NOE mold.

I've had great success with the 22-055.

Back on the old shooters forum a member who used the tag line "Wally Bator" was instrumental in the design work and convincing Lee and Mid South to work together making and Marketing that mould along with several others.

It was designed to give max weight and still be stable with the slower twist rifles. Mine gives excellent results from a hornet with 1 in 12 rates.

Has anyone tried this boolit in a 1/16 twist? I am looking for a mould to cast for a new Hornet rifle I have. A Springfield M1922 that was converted to Hornet.

Works great in my Handi Hornet. IIRC it's a 1/12 twist.

I have a 1x16 hornet actualy there 2 in the family and it has been my experiance that the 55 gr is to long to stabilize in my barrels.

I went with the BRP 227-46 FN that was designed for hornets. BRP is no longer making molds but NOE has made this mold with BRPs permission. I would go with a NOE version. My BRP is a 6 cavity, the only way to go with smaller Boolitz, lots of cavities in the blocks to keep them hot.
