How much lead shot with 4.5% to 5% antimony should I use to achieve a hardness of 15 to 18 bhn? I have a lot of #7 1/2 and # 8 shot. This would be for a 20 pound pot.
After checking some other posts concerning lead shot, I can see that 15 to 18 is not achievable. So, what is the best I can do with lead shot and pure lead for pistol boolits.

You know, if you want to trade off that shot for some WW just let me know.....

And the WW are ingots and fluxed....

I am known to get out of the house occasionally, just for the oddball stuff like groceries and end up going through town.

Lead shot around here is $42.00 per bag plus 5-1/2% Tax. That should buy plenty of WW. At Gander Mt. shot is $59.95 + Tax.

Download the alloy calculator spreadsheet on here. It will answer all.

You will have to much arsenic. Get some WW's or hardball. Even lino will help. Better than shot!

You should start a thread offering to trade lead shot for lino would be my suggestion.

If you're in Phoenix area, I'm willing to trade (my) Lino or Rotometals superhard for (your) shot if your trade valuations are fair.

That magnum shot by itself will HT to 42 BHN. Much more cost effective to sell shot and harden pure with wheelweights (HTs to 22 BHN at 50/50 %).

Chilled (low antimony 2%)shot: 10BHN - you aren't going to get to 15BHN without a ridonkulous amount of tin, and maybe not even then.
Magnum (high antimony 4-6%) shot: 13BHN. Depending on where the antimony number is, 2-8% tin will take it to 15BHN.

If you mix about half and half water dropping will probably have you somewhere in that range.

Tin actually hinders hardening (heat treating) 1/2 % is max for best heat treating. (Obviously not best for other purposes.)
