Little town NE of me 30 miles lost 150 structures mostly houses Sunday night and Monday from wild fires. We haven't had an inch of moister since last October. So any thing you can spare would be appreciated. A car or pickup with a catalytic converter just pulling off the road can cause a fire as dry as it is.

California is already on fire as well. It is going to be a rough and expensive summer. My prayers will be with all the firefighters.

The real problem is all that was available was a volunteer fire department for several hours and they have one pumper (old and outdated) and a tank truck.

Freightman, my wife has been near you at tater town for the last couple of weeks. It didn't take her long to get tired of the wind and remember one of the reasons she likes it here so well.

I was raised in Guymon/Hardesty area, could wait to leave and only been back to visit family.
Texas/Oklahoma panhandles are officially a desert.

I'm concerned about the next year or two in southeast NM as well. We've had about 1/2" of rain this year. We haven't had a big fire yet but it's a tinderbox. The tumbleweeds are piling up and they burn like gasoline.

Starmac, I live at Wheeler, Shamrock finally got 2" plus rain. I got .7. The Fritch fire count of houses lost is now over 220. Most lost everything as they only had time to escape with their lives.
Lake Meridith is down to a mud puddleat 33 ft. Depth.

Most of our reservoirs are only 20-30' deep except the channel which is maybe 40'. When they are 12' down, you walk a long ways till you get to water & the elec plants don't have much for cooling. Sorry can't spare any. Now Ar has gotten a bunch. Red R. dry there yet?

If I were God, I'd send what we're supposed to get today and tomorrow. Some say up to 2 inches, with flash floods. Wouldn't send the floods, though

Been through wheeler many hundreds of times, maybe thousands. Unless it has changed, I could even tell you what the inside of the jailhouse there looks like. lol

We have a new modern jail that just opened. If you come to visit I'd suggest staying at my house though. It isn't that nice in the jail.

The mattress in that old jail was made out of 1/4 in steel plate, just like the seat and toilet. I can assure you it was hard on a bad back. lol
