The prices for used are crazy, Why not load down a 30-30 with a light lead slug. 30-30 brass is free all over the ground at our range. Or for that matter a 32 special (35 rem brass is too hard to find). Frank C.

The 30-30 can be loaded quite light, and suitable bullets of around 100 grains are easy and cheap to make. Take a look at the Lee 93 and 100 grain molds for the 32 S&W Special. The 93 grain bullet (90308) can even be had as a six-cavity mold.

Yep, I wish I had bought one back a few years ago when Sportsman's Warehouse was closing them out for $400 which seemed high back then. But I do have a 32-20 one and 30-30 can certainly be loaded light so there's no real need. I just saw a NIB one go for over $2K - pretty silly.

I had one of the .32 H&R Mag Marlins and it shot "OK", but I feel it over-rated. When I had a chance to swap even on a pre-1964 Winchester 94 in.30-30 I jumped at the chance. Loading Ideal #3118 over 4 grains of Bullseye give me a delightful small game load and RCBS 30-180FN with 30 grs. 4064 ismy deer load. K.I.S.S. principle!

The things a Marlin 32 H&R will do that no 30 WCF will do are meet SASS rules for cowboy competition and hold 10 rounds for a stage.

If that's what floats your boat......
