Just picked up a minty Browning 53, 32/20.. bore slugged at .3115".

I am going to use it for woods loafing, small game, ect. Edible squirrels and rabbits, raccoons, turkeys, ect. I am having a hard time choosing between the RCBS 32-098-SWC and the Lyman 311008 boolits. Both seem to have the same profile, just with a 15 grain weight difference. Either one will have me crimping over the front band. I have Unique, 2400, 2015, 1680, Trail Boss and a few other powders to work with. Most likely I will be using wheel weights, and generally I lube with Alox.

Anyone want to make a recommendation?

Thanks.

I have both the Lyman and RCBS molds you mention and I'd go with the Lyman since it was designed for the 32-20. The RCBS has the crimp groove located for the 32 S&W Long and gave me feeding issues in a Remington Model 25.

I like the 3118/311316 because of the shape and the weight. I use it in 6 different 32-20 guns.

Joe that is an easy answer to come up with ... grab the RCBS bullet and run . I load that very same design in my model fifty-three . It has work very well with superb accuracy and it's very effective and stopping the enraged charges if the critters the 32WCF is good for . I have two loads for this bullet , one uses enough Accurate Arm number nine to get in the nineteen hundred foot per second range ( If I remember right ) The other is a mild charge of Unique for plinking .

My rifle slugs at almost .314" and this bullet gets just a touch in a size die while getting lubed . Your smaller groove diameter does give you some options to work with .

If you can find an old Ideal 3118, grab it and don't look back. I've got one and it has been my "go-to" bullet for all things in 32 pistol class for over 20 years. The 311008 is the modern equivalent, but it didn't "feel right" when I got one... I really like the old style better. I've also got the NOE 314008 in a 4-cab, but it drops a 125 grain bullet, so I save it for my 327 FM. YMMV, of course! ;)

I don't have much experience with the Lyman mold you mention, but I can say it would have to do awfully well to shoot with the RCBS boolit in my 32-20's. 1/2"ish at 50 yds. without optics.

I sold both my 311008 and 311316 and replaced them with a NOE 314008 5 cavity. 2 x PB, 2 x GC, 1 x GCHP. Much better fit.

The 3118/311008 by all means. I've shot both in the .32-20, .32 Mag and .32 S & W and the 311008 wins hands down. All I load in the .32 Mag./beagle
