Hi I am looking to buy a rifle in 25-35 Winchester. Does anyone use cast bullets for this cartridge; if so what mold do you use and what powder do you use for your loads?

The bullets would be used for target shooting at 50 and 100 yards so I wouldn't need to push them over 1600fps perhaps only 1400fps!

These are the bullets I would be considering 260-100PB, 258-85FNPB and 258-80FNPB.

Check out the Hensley & Gibbs web site, the Ed Harris section has a couple articles and load data on the. 25-35 with cast.

Thanks for that Ed Harris is a fountain!

I am however taking it from the lack of other responses that 25-35 is not a popular round for us cast bullet shooters? I am wondering if I might end up with the problems I have had with the 6.5x55, given the fast twist rate!

I would however be trying to use this as a 100 yard gun not a 300 yard gun like the 6.5x55, so 1400fps probably wouldn't give me too much of a problem!

A lot of the cast bullets and molds available in .257 seem to be a bit short for the 25-35!

You might be interested in a thread in the Group Buy Interest forum for an NOE copy of the Lyman/Ideal 257(260)-325 mold. Drawings are posted in the thread for both a round and flat nose version. It's in the neighborhood of 113 grains and long enough for 25-35. There are a couple of threads over at the Marlin Owners website on loading for 25-35 wcf that I think you would find quite interesting and helpful. If I knew how to imbeds an active link here I would. Perhaps some who knows how can help out.

I had a mold made for 25/35 that worked well in a Thompson Contender barrel. The boolits run about 130gn. I don't know the twist Winchester used possibly a 1/14" so not sure if these will work with that twist. I know they made a 117gn RN bullet for the 25/35 and even though these 130gnn boolits are heavier I doubt they are longer so should work. I can supply a sample if someone would like to try them in a Winchester 25/35

Just FYI, as I recall the 25-35 Winchester twist was quite quick. Like 1:8 or so. It was made to stabilize that 117 gr. round nose bullet at pretty a slow velocity. The 25 Rem. was a little less but still I think 1 in 10". FWIW Regards, Woody
