I have a brand new, just arrived Lee 6 cavity mold. Upon inspecting it, I noticed light shines through it; there's a small gap running through all the cavities. Is this something that needs to be corrected before I can cast with it?

Try to cast. Heating it up always let things come into place once lubed properly.
Then again it depends on HOW MUCH light.

Get it nice and hot, then check it. Like acrowe said, it might settle in.

Nice.. Did you tick the pre-beagled option when you ordered? :kidding:

The gap will close after first use

I found that there were small bits of metal still hanging on the bullet cavities, looks like whatever they used to cut it left some artifacts and it was never cleaned up. Used an exacto knife and a fine arkansas stone to remove metal and smooth, works fine now.

Would think that quality control would catch this sort of thing. Have had it happen on 3 brand new Lee 6 cavities now.

yup clean up the cavities and see how she casts
ive been really dissapointed with the deburring that wasnt done on the last 5 or 6 tools i bought
but after that and a bit of a lap, and making sure the pins dont shift...ugggg
the bullets fall out when you open the tool

My six cavity 9mm tumble lube mold shows daylight until it comes up to casting temp. It sure does drop nice bullets though! I cast about 800 more with it last night. All totaled I have made close to 5000 with it and don't even worry about the cold gap any more.

Seriously......cast with it. I had one too and took pictures and everything. Lee said to cast with it and sure enough, the gap disappeared. Be sure to lubricate the mold just like they say to. The gap really will go away.

Lee moulds all have burrs and left over chips. I take my pocket knife(gasp) and with the flat side of the blade trim off the burrs on the exit side of the cavities where the cutter was cutting out. There is usually a bit of a ledge there. A new mould really shouldn't have any light showing, but sometimes if you hold the handle just right they might.
