Well, after 40years of reloading I finally dumped powder back in the wrong jug! I have been downright anal about only having ONE powder canister on the bench at a time. A couple days ago I bought a pound of Re17 to try and had it setting on the bench. I loaded some heavy's with some IMR-4895 and then without even thinking emptied the half full measure back into the nearby Rx17 bottle. Put the cap on and started into the "safe" to put it away. Stopped short of the door and realized what I had done. I hope Hosta's like Re17. I'll send pics if they like $30/lb fertilizer!

Not as bad as I did. I have a powder bottle for a chew spit cup and dumped the measure into it once! Yeah the bottle hides the fact I chew from the wife.

Oof........That sucks.......
I remember the time I did that. I dumped a powder hopper full of unique right into a jug of 4064. As the last grains were trickling into the 4064 jug, I relaized what I did....
Sorry my friend, that hurts even more even now with the powder market being what it is....

And that is the reason I transfer my 4759 from the 8lb jug to a 1lb jar. Iffn I ever find a 8lb jug of 4895, I will do the same. Sorry for your loss:)

I did the same thing with unique and WSF. Ouch. It's really annoying though because I dumped such a small amount of unique in my 1lb jar of wsf and because the two are so similar in burn rate. I always look @ that thing and think about making some light 9mm loads.

My hopper has a piece of tape marked with what powder is in it. Helps me to prevent accidents like what happened to you. Did it once, but not a large amount. When I see the tape, it makes me do a hard stop and review.

Many years ago I dumped some Red Dot, about 3000 grains into a half full can of unique. I kept it for at least 20 years trying to extrapolate a load for 38 special, but never worked up enough nerve to try it. I finally burned it about a year ago. The powder was quite cheap back then.

I always dump about 1/4lb of powder into a clear plastic container and label it as to what powder is in it, I have about 6 containers right now labeled so if I ever do put something in the wrong container I only loose at most 1/4lb. At todays prices I cant even imagine your pain and loss...

One bottle on the bench at a time. Combine that w/ never leaving powder in a measure and this type of thing will never happen.

I like Doc's method but still keep only one container at a time on the bench. We all aspire to be like dragon813gt till that day when you watch the last of the powder draining through the funnel and saying S--- S--- S---.

I am about out of my one pound can of 4759
And about to open the 8 lb jug. This is a great idea.

That is the policy I have followed for 50 years - but somehow I managed to mix WST and 231. I noticed the difference in the powders as I was pouring the mix into my measure. Only lost 1#.

Yep, I never work from an 8lb jug unless I'm doing a looooong run and plan to load it all. I buy in the 8lb jug and refill 1lber's.

So sorry. If you haven't shaken it up you might cut the top off and scoop off the top half and save the bottom half???

I also do the one powder and one jar on the bench. I do have a habit of leaving powder in the hopper but the jar stays on the bench to identify what is in it.

I always label my hoppers and change the label when I switch powders. No scratching the head or guessing.

Ahem. I managed to dump some Herco into a Red Dot container. I now call it Slow Red Dot, and use it to make popcorn 38 Special loads. Works fine...

I could probably have done that with the Unique and Red Dot I mixed but was just afraid to try it.
