Today 30 miles east of La Junta, right before highway patrol closed the road.
Just a big wall of dirt and then I could hardly see 20 feet in front of the truck103529103530

My wife and I absolutely HATE living in Colorado. In less than 2 years she is taking early retirement and we are out of here.

My wife is down in Nm right now, and they are getting plenty of wind too. She hates the wind. lol

The wind wasn't too bad today, only gusting to 60 mph. Sunday was rough! Lots of wrecks on I 40 with people driving into dust. My brother (Shadetree 25) texted "sandstorm warning on area lakes". It would have been funny if it wasn't so true. The lakes are very low, exposing lots of bare ground.

Yeah, pretty much everything east of I-25 is just a variation of Kansas. I've enjoyed living here, but I had a job that required me to drive through certain mountain areas at times, which was cool. Except in the winter, and at night.

But, don't have that job anymore. Been unemployed for 1.5 yrs, getting mighty old. Don't ski or snowmobile, don't ride horses, hunt elk, or flyfish. Don't hike or climb mountains. Don't care for snow, cold or wind. And with the political changes, and the dopers taking over, moving elsewhere doesn't sound so bad. If there was a job waiting, and my wife could transfer, might consider it. But man, I HATE moving.....

bayjo - this is normal? Looks like the pictures of the Dust Bowl I show the kids every year, only in color.

Make sure to change your air filter and cabin filter(if your vehicle has one) often when in conditions like that.

This is just a breezy spring day on the plains of Colorado.
I grew up in the Oklahoma panhandle and believe me, they can have dirt storms that are black as night and last for hours.

Reminds me of Nevada, except for the slight green tint in the first picture....

Meh, any more thats the new "normal" for this time of year in this area. These last two days would have been perfect if not for the wind.

Please let it rain, or snow. I'll take either. I would really like to be able to go camping and have a fire. Or fireworks on the fourth of july. It's been a few years!

Yup, our weather will separate the men from the boys !!!! Sends a bunch of them packing every year.
Did I mention the 25 below and it stayed for most of a week not that many winters ago.
Actually the high winds are kinda neat, opens up a lot of new ground for arrowhead hunting !!!

Sounds like the weather here in NM too. :(

bayjoe what do you do? You are all over the place. Is that Monarch? Try Vail or Eisenhower, there's a little more snow. Three weeks ago I just barely got into the tunnel from the east as the snow was coming down so bad I could hardly see (9am) and the jeep was sliding. Came out and it was a beautiful day. The wind was whipping the snow off the peak so bad it looked like a white out.

I grew up about another 30 miles east of that picture. There was a mini dust bowl in the late 50's, and the dirt always blows out there. I remember seeing a pickup and camper come out of one of those dust clouds on 2 wheels...the passenger side wheels were about 3 feet off the ground. He got her put back down on all 4's, but it was pretty exciting for a few seconds.

That land is slowly drying up, and with no water....it's gonna blow. My grand parents and dad were first hand dust bowl people.

NW of Holly CO June 1, 2013. Leaving the ranch where there used to be Prairie Dogs.

I had to get out to close the gate & when I reached for the door handle I got zapped from the static. My camper is a fiberglass Bigfoot & must have built up capacitance. I'm used to getting poked (telco biz) so I stood there a couple more seconds & tried again. Zap! Slow learner. ;) I had to follow the power poles along the two track to get to the main road.

This used to be a pasture in better days.

Dust static on fence wires, snow does it to. I have watched the disconnected antenna connector for one of my ham radio antennas snap and arc during blizzards from snow static.
